Yep, I catch 6 bobcats to every coyote. My guesses as to why. 1. There's a lot of bobcats in my part of Red River county Texas. 2. New to trapping, coyotes less forgiven of mistakes. 3. Too many dirt holes at root balls of dead trees. 4. No flat sets in trails. 5. Bobcats are even dumber than raccoons. (If that's even achievable)

Are you still using MB450s for the cats?
@CoastalCarolinaOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yes. I think the one in the intro was in a 550, but 90% of my traps are 450’s
@tjwalker3265 Жыл бұрын
@@CoastalCarolinaOutdoors the 450s are by far my favorite traps. I have a ton of red fox where I'm at in Southern Maryland. I'll catch 30-40 reds to every coyote here. Unfortunately we don't have cats here

@CoastalCarolinaOutdoors and also still ok coyotes i heard you say. Do you always put them at that angle from the trap?
@CoastalCarolinaOutdoors2 ай бұрын
@ yup. Still good for coyotes. That’s why I don’t make “bobcat” sets like you see some people do. Not that those sets won’t catch cats, I just feel like it deters coyotes.

Any photos of the end of the chain before you pound it in the ground? What’s holding it from pulling out? I’m in sand country

On that particular set, I just put bait in the sheep wool. But I have put gland lure in wool as well.

What does your bottle of Cat Man Do smell like? I have old bottles that smell like castor but the new one I got this year smells like skunk. It’s loud! I’m sure it will probably work but I’m not to happy with the change.

I want to start trapping but have no land, can I trap on public land or no because someone could step on it? Also what are the best but cheaper traps I can buy. Thanks in advance
@CoastalCarolinaOutdoors7 ай бұрын
Bridger 1.75 are the best starter traps in my opinion. I’m not sure about the public land trapping. I know in SC there’s no public land trapping allowed. Depends on your state and laws. Minnesota Trapline Products is the best place to buy all your trapping supplies. They have starter kits that have everything you need to get going.
@CoastalCarolinaOutdoors7 ай бұрын
But if you want a really good trap that needs no adjustments you could get a half dozen MB450’s and never have to worry about them.

Thank you so much, also I’m from Missouri
@sethgnade353012 күн бұрын
I live in Missouri and state conservation areas you can trap with special permits. I trap about 16,000 acres of state ground here. But a lot of them have stricter trapping requirements like dog proofs or cage traps on dry ground only and you have to turn in a catch log when you're done trapping You can trap around mark Twain lake without permits. I'm not 100% sure but Im pretty sure you can trap national Forest ground without permits.

Trapping a beautiful cat like the Bobcat who does no harm, but is absolutely vital for pest control is sick. They are extremely reclusive, and rarely come close to a house, so are not harmful at all to humans or livestock. It is especially cruel to use foot traps, where a bobcat may suffer for hours or days before they are found and ultimately killed. The trap could also kill roaming cats or dogs, someone's pets. Bobcats don't bother humans. Their main sources of food are squirrels, rats, mice, and rabbits, all which are pests. Remember, it was not long ago that Bobcats were an endangered.

So sorry for your misconception of Bobcats. I often have issues within our farm with Bobcats, they are the number one culprit of our chicken and cute little Nigerian dwarf goats we farm for meat. Bobcats are also very helpful in our extreme low numbers in wild turkey because of our thick terrain. As far as passing dogs and cats he seems to be away from any homes likely a hunting club lease or 16th section land or large private property based on the number of sets and locations he’s setting. Feral cats and dogs are a thing and big a problem. Those harsh foot traps are not that harsh, because fox pen owners will not buy coyotes with hurt feet and or legs.

@CombatPIG03112 ай бұрын
Are you mentally retarded? Bobcats are very destructive to livestock (birds) and to every other natural ground animal. They are magnificent hunters and can decimate other animal populations. I've lost 30+ (chickens / ducks) in the last year, to a pair of bobcats. My dogs alert me when a cat hits a trap so they don't spend more than a few minutes in the trap. And my dogs know what the traps are and where they are, so they avoid those spots. I suspect you are a city or suburb dweller, who tells country and mountain people how the world is. You're clueless.
