May 1967, I had just returned from a year in Vietnam, I was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Washington DC, had 6 months left to serve. A soldier in our barracks had this album. He let me borrow it to take to the Post library so I could listen in a special soundproof room. I was blown away, bought my own copy and spent many nights just listening in amazement at this great album. I wore it out. It is still the best album ever made.

I feel like this is the part of the album where it really kicks in. After the long and amazing visions of Johanna, which is one of Dylan’s best songs but takes a while to appreciate completely, it strikes as one of the catchiest and most passionate songs in the album upon first listen. This album is the best “popular music” piece ever made by far and it works as the platonic idea of a amazing album experience even stronger than Pink Floyd’s or The Beatles’ albums by a long shot in my opinion (even though both of them are amazing to).

One of Bob's greatest songs. A message to all the down thumbs....you don't deserve a message.

I get the feeling that Bob put a LOT of effort into this song and the recording. It was going to be released as a single and he thought it would be a big hit. It was't but it should have been.

reminds me of when I was a 17/18-year-old - going to listen to the full album with nostalgia. Gave my double album to Fabian Mulenga, one of my boys In the Kitwe 'North Copper Smelter' in Zambia back in 76 as a leaving present.

It was too long for the Deejays to play it. I was in my late teens and never heard it on the radio. When I bought the album I was amazed at this song and really the whole list.

Unbelievably great track…shows how fantastic all the musicians playing in a room and recording the performance can be! Paul Griffins piano performance alone is jaw dropping! A masterpiece of a song…..all around.

I don't know how that piano playing is even possible.

the last time I listened to the whole double album non stop was 1969, Armitage Ave apt. on Chicago's near north side over 50 years ago....like it was yesterday
