Hey Group, I’ll be throwing more instructional Horsemanship videos up on the side channel “Barely Survival” but wanted to see what y’all thought of this. So far, I think most are here for the survival vids. Hope everyone is well out there.m, we’ll be filming around the horses for the next month so if you’ve any videos you think I should make throw them here in the comments and we’ll see what we can do. Take care and as always,.. until Next Time, Bob Hansler

Hello Bob! I’d like to see the progress of a trail ride, from starting point to setting off the next day. Showing bits of the ride, breaks to water yourselves and the horses, care of horses for the night, where/how tack and saddle r stowed for the night, cooking, what’s cooked, bedding put down (what’s used for a pillow, seeing how it was not mentioned n the video what is necessary for the trail ride) a bit of the Texas night sounds, be it silent or animal noises would be cool, what’s for breakfast, packing up, reading the horses for another day. I know this video will be longer, or it can be broken up n parts for those who don’t like long videos, me, I’d love and enjoy the whole video! Thank u

Hello Bob! I sooo want to thank u for the correct way to saddle a horse, I have ridden quite a bit, had my own horse for a time. I was shown how to, I was watched while I did it, I was never told why or what for, there were no corrections. Watching u shows me how badly I was taught. I truly appreciate u showing me the proper way to saddle a horse, but mostly, making sure the horse is cared for properly and is comfortable!!! Ur the BEST! Thank u

Great video Bob. I miss my old Mare, she was born and raised in the rough country of Carrizozo, White Oaks NM. My Dad bought her to hunt in the mountains. She was sure footed as they come. But being raised in lion country, she was always snorting and nickering..lol. Testing for scent and letting herself be known. Terrible for hunting, but absolutely the best for rocky country. I have no more horses now, still have my saddle. Can't make myself give it away. I wonder how many here know about... Left Brain, Right Brain... it would make an interesting topic for young horsemen. Cheers Bob.

There's so much good going on here: in particular all the ways to check things that could cause the horse irritation or 'wear a hole' in them; also reaching for the cinch with the left hand the way you did is safest. A couple things I'll offer to consider changing: I can see the halter is tied above the loop, forming an overhand knot which can either work loose or in a pull-back get jammed so tight it can't be untied. A proper halter knot should be tied around the loop, forming a sheet bend. Secondly, with the cinching, heaving it tight with those sharp pulls can't be at all pleasant for the horse. Pulling it snug smoothly in stages is just as effective, doesn't risk pinches, and is far more considerate to the horse. (which you've shown in other steps that you care about) :~)

I'm curious, you didn't brush the chest or legs of the horse. Any particular reason for not doing so? I would have thought those areas would be affected by ticks or thorns. The horse seemed to enjoy the brushing anyway. I had a couple of riding lessons when I was much younger. Riding around an indoor arena I recall the horse kept riding very close to the wall and I had to keep tugging the rein to steer it away, otherwise I wouldn't have any knee caps left. 😂 Another rider was paired with what seemed to be a cart horse. I assume it was because he was a little on the large side himself. He kept flicking it with a riding crop trying unsuccessfully to get it to move, with the sweat pouring out of him. 😂 It made us laugh. I moved away from the area so I didn't have more than a few lessons. Going on a horse trail sounds as though it might be a lot of fun, if you don't have to do it for a living. I remember watching a John Wayne film where he made his horse walk in reverse. I didn't know horses could be trained to do that and I burst out laughing with delight. Anyway, nice video, I enjoyed it. Stay safe and well. God bless you and your family. Steven.

The chest rarely wears, typically a saddle that has shifted and tightened the breast collar. Legs should be inspected, but there is no practical reason for brushing them. Riding through brush will get it done quick enough.

lol I didnt know how to ride till I joined the SCA. All I wanted to do was beat someone with a base ball bat and got involved in exercising a friend's horses. Evidently, if you shovel enough stalls, feed, water and lead them around enough you get to learn how to ride them eventually. Sure is fun though. Nothing like a horse wanting to run under you. Just grip with your knees and lean forward with the wind in your hair. So, if you ever want to get on a horse owners good side, muck some stalls.
