Hey Group Hoping ya'll like this video, admittedly I could have added quite a bit of info in hindsight. This took a great deal more effort than I had hoped in regards to the lack of eyesight... hoping feverently that the surgeries this summer are successful and grant me back some sight. Tell me what you think on this one! I'll try to answer the questions I am sure will come. Comment like crazy on this one if you can, time to get this channel recognized by the KZbin algorithms once again so these vids get seen. Thank you all, Until Next Time, Bob Hansler

When you are hungry, any pot in a storm. Wild onions make many things taste good. I have seen boiling in a hide extended from along stick near the fire. The Indians did it routinely. Your way is so much safer if you are not experienced and only have one hide. thanks for this excellent example of what can be done. On the clams, take a shell and scrape out the meat from the others. Thanks for sharing...on a side note...I read somewhere that onions and garlic have thiosulphate which is very toxic to both cats and dogs...it destroys their red blood cells so they get sore and lethargic, but the symptoms are often delayed or subtle so the owner never notices their pet suffering from the toxin...which they would avoid in the wild, but because our cooking can often disguise the flavors of onion and garlic, our pets sometimes fail to detect the thiosulphate toxin and just chow down at their own peril. Didn't look like your pup ingested too much of it or anything, but still figured it couldn't hurt to make sure you knew about it :)
@BobHansler6 жыл бұрын
As a Biologist I am versed on the subject. It'd take close to a pound before negatively impacting a dog his size. Quantity is lithe issue with many things. Appreciate the concern.
@tmalonso6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you already knew about the issue...Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm curious, where do you get that 1lb estimate? For some reason I thought I remembered the formula as half a percent of their body weight can give dogs or cats hemolytic anemia...so by that math, for every 25lbs of pet body weight, it only takes 2 ounces of combined onions/garlic to make them suffer pretty bad...so even 8 ounces can make a 100lb dog sick...unless I'm underestimating the size of your pup, my math seems to cut your estimates in half...not a big difference, but with pets I figure it's better safe than sorry, so I wanted to ask, thanks for the reply!
@shawnsisler37436 жыл бұрын
Yes, and grapes too. I had a problem with our Rex because he loves onions, he would steal them out of the bin and eat them, got very ill.
@JusBidniss6 жыл бұрын
And of course, another thing to consider is that Huck didn't ingest anywhere close to 2 oz (about 1/4 c) of the actual onions. More like a lick or two of weak onion broth. Which would probably not cause anything more than some stinky gas -- more 'toxic' to Bob than Huck! :)
@tmalonso6 жыл бұрын
yep, if you check my original comment I mentioned that Huck didn't have much...also cooking the onions doesn't reduce the toxicity...and its always a gamble when dealing with wild plants...you might stumble across some extra potent wild onions making the store bought onion by weight estimates inadequate ;)

Those onions he's picking are wild onions, they don't get near as big as the genetically modified ones you buy from the grocery store. Just like wild strawberries are only as big as a grape if your lucky, instead of as big as a golf ball like the ones in the market, which are also modified.

You know, one of the best parts of your videos is the fact that you wear sunglasses. I grew up in, and still live, in Phoenix, AZ. Your environment isn't really alien to me, so it does feel a little like you took a camera into your backyard. I hope that doesn't come off as negative. In fact, I like to think I appreciate it more, the talent you've developed. Learning to survive in an environment that nowadays, supports shut-ins like me, who would die without high-speed internet. It means you went the extra mile, ignoring the modern convenience around you, to prepare for the reality of your environment. The whole lead in to my post is to provide context to the first statement. I'm glad you wear sunglasses. I wither under eye-contact, so it actually makes your videos a lot easier to watch. It's awesome to watch someone _live_ in the *real* , real world. I hope that doesn't sound like gibberish.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The hat soup bowl is a new one on me. Surgeries this summer, hopefully then I'll be able to better do what I'm about.

Yeah, I was going to say "Are you sure those aren't river lobsters?".

A mentioned it was an excellent video. The vision problem you mentioned isn’t discernible on the video other than the sunglasses and doesn’t detract from it. You have so many fans here you may want to tell them what it is, retinitis, corneal problem. In any case - good luck. You are obviously a very very tough resourceful guy.

How fresh was that hide as it looked pretty wet still. Is that better for cooking or can it be drier if that's all you had? Really enjoyed this & hoping for good things this summer for you!

It's more effort than I'd like to admit most days. Hoping for some additional sight after summer surgeries... could really use it.
