Its not only the song that counts. Its the modulation that the performers are playing that is creating a new sound, rather than a new II V I song..Also, its not Charlie on guitar, it is James Blood Ulmer, and the bassist is me Fred Williams....You can see me again on youtube search for "Fred Williams Bassist"

Canadian Jazz Legend once told me, "Sitting in the living room with radio on since morning, tap dripping, watching TV while paying attention to the fat lady fight next door, all of a sudden the fridge kicks in and a semi runs by outside shaking/rattling everything .... nothing is wrong. Everything is in harmony. Just like a typical sunday afternoon at the apartment. He further stated that there was absolutely nothing wrong to be on the "outside".

Most of you haters couldn't do this if you tried. Seriously, playing this fluid and random takes lots of practice and dexterity, as does memorizing a load of scales. Ornette Coleman has always been a love em' or hate em' figure. His style is often soundscapes that are quite unfamiliar to people, and some people find that interesting, some don't. I don't hate on people that don't like this music, but to say that a 4 year old could do it, or it sounds like a 6th grade band warming up is pretty stupid.

Yes Jesse, there is some music that is at another level of experience and understanding. We don't have to claim it is "higher" or "lower" than any other form of music. It's just what it is. If I can listen to this and feel so much, then it's important to me.

I don’t know how to describe Ornette Coleman’s playing. It’s organized disorganization. It’s like he’s playing the wrong notes correctly. It gets to you emotionally.

I can't believe that people are still talking about noise, bla bla after all these years. Coleman, Coltrane, Jarret legends, the argument is over. If you dont like the music just move on theres lots of other music to like.

This is… very peculiar. If you're not used to it it just sounds like a disorganized mess, but it does have a coherent atmosphere and a great deal of skill when you listen to each of the musicians. Not sure I would listen to this all day though…

I am a great fan of jazz and I admire the ability of Ornette Coleman, but I find this a bit hard to listen to. Only my opinion, not meant to be a definitive statement on free jazz. John Coltrane is my favorite tenor player, and I find some of his later stuff similarly hard to enjoy.
