Some Jaco rip off harmonics and the same Rich soloing he does on everything else - this is really not anything different from any other of his work except he took out the horns. Buddy Rich was an amazing drummer and few can do what he did. But I never find him very musically interesting.

Reading some of the comments here sparked me to write my own tribute such as it is, as he remains one of the many guitarists of any genre that I listen too. When starting my own journey into learning to play guitar some thirty years ago a good friend at the time loaned me a jazz tutorial book authored by Johnny Smith that at the time opened my attention to the modes and remains up until this day a prize in possession of things I hold dear. I truly am an admirer and an eternal student of Mr Smith.

Just three days ago I attended a concert -- CB100 -- dedicated to the 100th birthday of Chet Atkins, and to Barney Kessel. The two guitarists, Pat Bergeson and Bruce Forman, played instruments belonging to the two honorees. The one that Barney is playing is not the one that Bruce played, but okay. I love Barney's contrary motion at 0:23, among several other highlights. Thanks for posting.

For those wondering why Jimmy's left hand is solo voicing here on the upper manual, it is simply because the rhythm octave on lower manual is at a higher octave (I think 4th octave lower manual in this case). > No matter how you grade the drawbars on the upper manual, the 'bite' on the upper is always too strong, sonority has to shine through in this style of composition. This is improvisation, and he turned his instrument 'inside out' to show it.

He is great and able to play all over the place with his huge octopus hands, that’s what makes him unique. Joe Pass playing acoustic is the most impressive jazz playing I’ve ever heard, but I enjoy listening to Charlie Christian and people like Kenny Burrell and Wes Borland the most. But yeah Joe Pass- Virtuoso is as impressive to me as a first class classical player like John Williams.

Lol he thinks he is so cool. He is nothing compared to Wes Borland and the guitarist from Incubus. All this is is noodling.

Crudup lived a very simple lifestyle, considering that he was paid >$2 million (adjusted for inflation) for Elvis' use of "That's All Right". Oh wait, he was paid <$2000, if that.
