When he solos, you hear the approach of a piano player. One of the greatest ever. We were blessed to have heard his music.

so what. who cares. is a piano player's approach better? no. and how is it exactly like a piano player's? He told me personally otherwise.

N.B. the second number is Rodgers/Hart "Falling in Love with Love" and not any of the other bad wild guesses suggested below.

Yeah, but because he doesn’t do it while standing and/or jumping around people tend to forget the big name rock guitar heroes weren’t as good. And when I say “people,” I mean schmucks like myself!

It's great how barney is able to hold the whole thing together on those uptempo tags when the rhythm section is falling apart and dropping the time all over the place...

Kessel was a great Jazz guitarist but he also worked as a studio musician being a part of the famous Wrecking Crew in Los Angeles. Many Jazz Musicians doubled as studio musicians because playing Jazz didn't pay well. Jazz musicians are the best so they do well as studio musicians where you have to be able to play any kind of music and do it quickly. To do that you have to be an excellent reader, have a great ear and be able to improvise on the spot.

Amazing how they start the last tune-the blues in a pretty slow/medium tempo and end up in much faster tempo.I like that, I get annoyed when people are in my case for speeding,it’s worse to slow down.

I attended this concert (Maison de L'ORTF, Paris, 1969). Barney lined with Kenny Burrell and Grant Green) for an unforgettable event. Back then, I was 19. I decided not to think too much to become a pro musician and to stick to my medical college... BTW, Bob, I'm very curious : as a French, I never had the opportunity to access to the concert footage. I know, there was a TV crew on site, but they never aired the concert. Where did you get this gem (high sentimental value to me)...? PS : His cover of "Here's that Rainy Day" is unique (not recorded on any album)
