I've always been running against the wind. Ever since my parents died and I had to take care of my three brothers. It happened in a small town and we got good support, but so many sad nights. I cry so much. I listen to this song and it recalls my life. We grew up as good christians. Good morals. Honest. In the 70's. Now, I've lost two of those brothers. Didn't really know them, as I was too busy with my life. I feel ashamed for that. Selfish really. I have to deal with that. The lyrics of this song is as if had written the words according to my life. I'm 66 now. Lived through the wind, raised three kids and feel thankful for that as my life's accomplishment. So maybe they won't have to go through life against the wind.

Love Seger,,, I drive the highways a lot and when I need to get inside myself and look at life this comes in to inspire and strengthen my mind and soul ! Ya just gotta wonder how these wonderful artists were capable of giving so much over the years . That generation will NEVER be surpassed by the quality and originality that they created! I makes me young again! Seems like just yesterday, but it was long ago! Thankyou Bob! From Texas.

Life is a series of lessons. Sometimes, I think amazing songs like this are heard at important times in our lives. I don't believe in accidents. Does anyone here remember what was happening in your life when you first heard this song? Learn your lessons as they come to you, and that lesson will not repeat. Love to all.

This song came out when I was 4 years old. My parents divorced before I was 3. I grew up loving Bob Seger my entire life but this song always gave me a different feeling... one of nostalgia and comfort and love. Sometimes it would even bring me to tears but I never knew why. I am 46 now and about 3 years ago I shared a lyrics graphic of the song on Facebook with a comment of how much I loved the song and that it felt like home . My step-mother commented on my post saying how much my Daddy loved it too, and would play it over and over and sing it to me and I would sing back as best I could at age 4. My Daddy was killed in car wreck 3 days after my 5th birthday. Because of my young age, the emotions of the song had stayed with me when the memories of why had not. Music is one of the best gifts life has and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

The song touches my soul. I am 79 now, and it brings back memories of my oldest son who died at age 52 of a heart attack. But his life was much like this song. He did his best to care for his family, but the turmoil of carying for his first family, and his second and third family, took its tole on him. He died at age 52. I look forward to seeing him again when I go home to be with our Lord. He was saved.

"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" ... WOW one of the simplest, yet heaviest lines in all of rock history. Also his singing of this line is ,while subtle, comes straight from his heart. This song feels to me like he's singing words he did not write, but, rather, words that have been sleeping in every aching heart that has ever been. All he did was be an instrument with pen, piano and voice, writing and singing what every heart from the entire history of humankind knows all too well.

This era of music had so much more depth of both feelings and music. The instrumentation is just outstanding; beautiful. Evokes emotion and remembrance for another time. Today’s music doesn’t even come close.

Perfect road trip song. Played it as I drove through Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, Crazy Horse…the majesty of the country. Can’t wait to visit other places!
