I'm 69, cancer survivor this past year, still doing construction work to make ends meet and help the kids. I sat by my 90 year old Dad's bedside in my house when he died after we had cared for him for five years. I didn't realize what a rock he had been and how much his life had influenced me even though he was old school Navy and I was a '60's hippie and we never saw eye to eye even to the end. We were two rocks, side by side. Thanks, Dad.

My father, the old Army Master Sergeant, passed away in March 2020 at the age of 89. We saw eye-to-eye on virtually nothing. But he was rock and taught me and my brothers how to be men…how to be accountable, responsible and take of our families. Lessons for life. When I listen to this song, I hear a tribute to the old Master Sergeant.

You know it. Try listing to Journey, Tom Petty, Eagles, Kansas Carry on my way word son, Boston so many more so little time. Make the time there's nothing like a good song taking you back to that special place and time. The smile that comes to your face is nothing like the warmth that comes through your heart. If we could live like it was in the good ole days 60's and the 70's coming full circle.

Thank you for your service... I get it ..there will be no white flag above your door, when we suffer from PTSD, we ? Where is our ROCK? PTSD pushes us to places we don't want to recall, it's not the memories that we wanted to create , but are a result from what's been given to us, we can't bury it, we swish it away, we wish it would wash away, so many will try to drink it or drug it away, sadly it just doesn't leave us, at times it gets the best of us & pushes us into a different culture of GREY, but hopefully you won't let it get you too far discouraged, just doing things differently will get you moving along a awesome path, starting with a new thing you find each day.. have hope, let the joys flood you w new , happier, better experiences, to keep the burdens of PTSD away... For TODAY, this moment "Like a ROCK" for you I PRAY.........

Thanx......What's that make me? An "older old man"? I'm 5 years older than you are buddy. Pull your foot out of that grave for a second and listen up......60 is the new 40. Deal with it or die, it's up to you. It's better to live a lie than to die for truth. I don't have any kids but I've got all my hair and for all practical purposes I'm a 43 year old man who retired early and receives SSI every month like clock work. I'm currently hooking up with a 34 year old chic and since nearly all of my friends have died already, there is very little chance I will be exposed as the fraud that I am. A few years ago I attended the funeral of a veteran police officer slain in the line of duty. A young lady from his family sang this haunting song and, at the end, added an extra verse in honor of the departed. There wasn't a dry eye to be seen. This was the additional stanza. "Each time I pinned my badge on, This mantra I would say: 'If life offers you battle, don't ever run away. When the Devil stalks the righteous, You stand fast in his way, Like a rock.' Like a rock." May the Lord watch over and protect the men and women of that Thin Blue Line who daily risk all to watch over us.

Me and my friends, lived most of our teenage years during the 80's, here, in the mountains of southern West Virginia, and we were like rocks, hair down to our shoulder's, steel in our eyes. Took no crap from anyone, your buddies always had your back, did'nt have to ask. Now, in 2020, I'm 55, half bald, don't see so well and short a few good buddies, who have went on to the other side. It also reminds me of a trip I took in 2014 out to California for a temporary Insurance Adjusting gig. I was driving through the mountains of Arizona on Route 66 in my 2001 Chevy S-10 and this song came on the radio. It was one of those perfect moments that sticks with us for life. I miss that truck. It served me *_VERY_* well. 🤘

@justincooper5189 Жыл бұрын
That is true, but this song came out in 1986. So the 80's also had some ballads that taught life lessons too. Bob is one of those artists who doesn't need pomp and flash to sell records, because the voice and lyrics do most of the work, then the music finishes out what the song needs, and then you get gems like this, and then the nostalgia hits you right in the feels.

I remember this song in the hospital when cancer came back the third time. Chemotherapy didn't work, R.I.C.E treatment didn't work , Stem cell transplant didn't work, or radiation didn't work. That's when I realized sometimes you have to be a rock and just take it. Yes I lost my 30s to the disease but its the little children that my prayers go out to. Make no mistake those are the strongest people you will ever meet physically and mentally.

I know what you are saying, and wish you the best of all. I have beating cancer for 10 years, and won't give up. I drove a race boat all over the east US, and met very good people doing that. It is a family. I have 2 harleys in the garage and just don't feel like working on them. I built them. Just don't have the spirit to get them out. I want you to know, keep track of your mind and the ones you truly love! I love my family has some things going on, but trust your faith. I don't know if God has anything to deal with it, but trust in yourself and do what is in your mind to do the choices for you. I have a million songs to give you, but you have to pick your own that's make you feel like you!

It was the year 1986 when I drove on the Interstate between Dallas, TX and Los Angeles, CA, when between van Horn and El Paso, on a clear stretch of highway, this overwhelming song appeared on my car radio. I was doing 160 mph with an Escort-equipped Porsche 928 S, and the lyrics of the song hit me unexpectedly hard. Before getting to LA I drove off the main highway, passing along Hwy 111 into Palm Desert, CA, and parking just outside of the major mall there. Then I went to the CD store, and described to the sales girl the content of the song which I never heard before that. I still have Bob Seger's CD, and Like a Rock became my all-time favorite, because it is also the story of my life, albeit in a different way than for Bob. I also ignored the hustlers and scammers as a young student, and went on to pursue an exceptional academic career in the hard and quantifiable physical sciences during the 70s and part of the 80s, and I reflected upon those past years in the same way that Bob Seger did.....And because I spent a few decades of my career abroad, Neil Diamond's "I am I said" is equally meaningful talking to me with the lyrics he chose for that song...

There is no songs today that match up with the classics if the eighties and half of nineties. After that decade it was all down hill with music except for the country western classics. No one can even come close to them also. Songs today so not tell a story, they only keep repeating the same words over and over as if the song writer got stuck writing new words . And today , from the end if the nineties ii seem like the same tunes and some one is trying to put words to the same Melody. Can any of them come up with new melodies and maybe put a story to the tune. What happened to the excellent song writers if yesterday??????

About to be 36, I remember growing up in 1992 they'd play this Chevy truck commercial all damn day with this song, come to find out Chevy was trying to sell trucks to us as a means to keep the American dream alive. It's just so hard for US to keep our dreams when there's so many hustlers and their schemes, but like a rock this song has stood the rest of time. I hope that we can all find peace in our minds and that we are never too blind to feel like we have lost all hope because hope is never lost, it is only forgotten. Hope always there to be found if we have reason and compassion to see it. 🌹✌🏻🌹🙏🏽🌹✌🏿🌹🙏🏼🌹👍🏽🌹✌️🌹

Man can I relate ! My daddy was the strongest, proudest, he man that I have ever seen! He served in the U.S. Army ‘54-‘56. He was that man that Bob is singing about. I played this for him, just me and him alone, in ‘05. I saw that far away look in his eyes as he listened. He was not one to show emotions, very much, but I think the song connected the way I had hoped it would. My dad passed away from numerous health problems, in ‘09. Every time I hear this song I think of my daddy. I always did even from the first time.
