Imperial Pizza is what Bocce's on Bailey used to be like 30-50 years ago. Bocce's used to have a thicker crust, more of that thick sweet and tangy sauce, and more cheese. I would be willing to bet that a large Imperial pizza is about 15-20% heavier. Dave Powers and James Bouris both worked as managers at Bocce's on Abbott road before they took ownership in 1992 and it became Imperial Pizza. Though they've operated in South Buffalo for three decades, both were born and raised in Amherst. In fact, that's where both learned to make pizza while working for Bocce Pizza on Bailey. They've kept the recipe close to what I remember Bocce's Pizza was in the mid 70s".

BINGO. Bocce is not the same at all and Imperial is what Bocce was. I used to eat at Abbot Rd when Bocce and now Imperial. Nothing has changed and is why I crown Imperial King except for maybe Sanotra's on Transit which is Buffalo's oldest pizzeria and damn good.
