I Google searched can chickens eat onions when I found wild onions and garlic everywhere in my yard, I was so stressed that they couldn’t roam the yard since it is everyday and impossible to o keep track and pull up . I found 3 or 4 studies on onions ( @government websites / pubmed) and how they effect broiler hens and geese and the way it makes layer hens eggs taste. There is no reason to pull onions out of your food scraps and if you chicken likes them add them to your chickens diet they enrich their health. yay! That relieves the free range wild onion stress for many of us on the east coast that tend chickens. 😊

Since I believe in a Designer and Creator I believe the chicken came first. An egg can't happen by random chance or accident. Someone needs to lay it, and someone needs to set on it and incubate it. And really someone needs to care for, protect and teach the chicks, so it really doesn't make sense or seem feasible for the egg to come first...

Best way to monitor health would be a weekly weigh in. Chickens will conceal their illness as long as possible because they don’t want to show weakness. Yeah, I probably won’t go through the effort, but, yes, a weekly weigh in would catch an illness much faster than waiting to see symptoms. I like aragonite calcium, or calcium carbonate, I’m convinced oyster shells being coastal bottom feeders or farmed have high levels of chemicals and heavy metals. Also avoid pyrethrin chemicals for mites and lice..these are not safe, innocuous chemicals just because they are made from flowers..there are new studies that show they cause birth defects like scissor beak and bulging eyes..

To answer the question, what came first, the chicken or the egg? I look at it this way, and egg needs to be nurtured. It needs warm, it needs to be turned, and it needs the right environment in order to survive. So, a chicken would be needed to do that. So I believe a chicken came before the egg. For those who believe that Adam and Eve were the first people created by God, I don't believe that God created men and women as an infant child. Children need nurturing. Children cannot survive without an adult. Therefore, God created man in his own image as an adult. Just my beliefs.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer is the rooster. Then the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon the rooster, He then plucked a feather from his side and created a hen. Then the rooster was more than happy to know the hen and she layed an egg.

I think both of my gallinas are brooding and they both are on egg #5. When should we put a food and water bowl next to their nesting boxes and will we need to take the rooster out? One of our roosters is a semental and he used to be what I called “the gentleman” but now he flogs me every time I go in the coop to change water and give food. Not sure if he is just protecting the gallina or why he suddenly started flogging me 😅
@BockBockBouquet3 жыл бұрын
Eventually they will stop laying eggs while being broody, they are trying to lay a clutch to hatch. Is the food and water for mom or for babies? If it’s for mom there is no need she will leave the nest once a day to eat/drink and relieve herself. The eggs will hatch after 20 days of incubation and at this point after all chicks have hatched, I would recommend actually fencing off an area in the coop or putting her and pen or larger cage and letting her raise the babies in there safe from predation from predators and other hens/roosters possibly picking on and killing the baby chicks. If not separated there is a chance they will go missing one by one. The mother hen will do her best to protect her baby chicks but this can cause undue stress to her. The fencing will have to be small enough that a baby chick couldn’t fit through it and it’s best if it’s in or near the coop so the flock sees the babies and once they are large enough and released they will have already been integrated as the rest of the flock is used to seeing them. We use these grow out pens often as they come in handy for broody moms, integrating pullets, or as a hospital pen. The rooster could just be hormonal and coming to age and possibly seeing you as a threat to the flock. Unfortunately some roosters can be aggressive and it’s hard to change that. Some are always gentlemen and would never attack. Some are gentlemen and only attack if they see you picking up a hen and she’s squawking up a storm 😂. Maybe he hears the hens distress call and you happen to be around. Try picking him up and carrying him around when he tries to attack. Pet him, talk to him. See if this helps lol

@BockBockBouquet2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We don’t anymore, the best way to keep them away is too never leave feed out. Only give them as much treats on the ground as they will consume. You can take their feeders away at night, or I will link a video below on the rodent proof feeder we use and love. It’s a treadle style that only opens for the chickens and not rodents or wild birds. We haven’t noticed any rats ever since we have stray feral cats that took up residence on our property. They just showed up, we don’t feed them, they live off our land. They must be eating something! (All the rats) maybe add a few barn cats to your property. They don’t bother the chickens, they would only harm baby chicks or small pullets. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGG6lGyiqad8hdE

Hi guys, new chicken owner here. Quick question that wasn't asked on the video. My chickens have taken to sleeping on top of their coop. I was told probably because it got really hot here. We let them do it for a few days but decided it wasn't a good habit. Their coop has a window and ventilation. For a week now we have to go out each night and physically take them off the roof and put them inside the coop. Any tips on how to break them of this habit? They are getting to be laying age and want to encourage them to lay in the proper place. Thanks for any tips!
@BockBockBouquet2 жыл бұрын
Chickens desire to sleep on the highest roost to be protected from predators. Manually placing them on their roost each night should train them. How tall is your coop and how high are the roost bars in the coop? Maybe raise the roost bars in the coop as they would dislike ones near the floor. Once close to laying age place fake wood or ceramic eggs in the nest boxes and that will encourage them to lay in the nest boxes

Once they lay a clutch of eggs they stop laying while brooding and sitting on the eggs to hatch. We mark a circle around the egg in pencil on the eggs being incubated by the hen so if another chicken lays their eggs in the same nest we don’t get them confused and have half incubated eggs
