Hei! Greetings from Winnipeg, back in your "Old Country" :) I loved your video, and thank you. My ancestors were from Bodø. My grandfather left in 1909, went to sea, and decided to stay in Canada. He changed his surname from Schjem to Olsen here. I understand there are still some distant relatives with that name living there. Lol, maybe one lives across the street from you :) I'm planning a visit with my daughter Ingrid for 2024. I'm sure much has changed since Grandfather saw it, but he would certainly recognize the water and beautiful scenery. A beautiful city, and we can't wait to visit. Is there a local contact to inquire about ancestry research or resources online? Best good wishes from Canada :) Take care, and have a wonderful holiday season. Skol!

Thank you so much. I really do love my “new” home city. The city would be almost unrecognizable to your grandfather today. Most of it was levelled during WWII. Even the cathedral and the hospital were bombed. Very few original buildings still remain. But one thing hasn’t changed, and that is the beautiful nature and landscape of the city. When you visit, you will be looking at the same mountains and islands he once looked out on. 😊 I am not aware of any local ancestry researchers but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. 😉 I hope you enjoy your visit and please don’t be afraid to ask any questions you may have. I’ll do my best to answer you. 😊 happy holidays!

So beautiful, in January I will live there, if you can tell us, what we can do in the winter time or how looks the recreational stuff during COVID-19, I will be so happy. Thank you in advance

So exciting! Welcome to Bodø. As for winter activities...if you like to cross country ski, there are tons of opportunities just outside your door. If you prefer downhill skiing there are 3 spots for that not too far outside the city. There are concerts and productions at Stormen konsert hall if you like music or theatre. Let me know what your interests are and I can try and point you in the right direction 😊
