Having attempted (badly) to make a video comparing only two drums, I can really appreciate the time and work that went into making this flawless video. To change the heads for every step, to play and run all the parts together so it flowed, and to achieve the consistency of tuning must have taken ages. This deserves many more views. Good job.

Great comparison! Back to back to back like this is the ONLY way to do this sort of thing. No talking in between, no downtime. Great job!
This is the best comparison video I have ever seen - drums, cymbals, guitars, amps, pedals, anything - the best. Well done, and thank you for taking all of that effort for a 4min video. It was very very helpful.

FINALLY, the BEST Evans drum head demo video on KZbin. They should pay you $10 each time it gets played. This is how all head demos should be done. Same tom beat, no cymbals, no excessive snare rolls, no BS. THANK YOU.

This is the way to do this!! Straight no "showing off" drumming, good information about what gear is used etc. Hats off, no doubt about it! However, a small footnote. It's a single and specific way of tuning and some heads benefit more from this tuning than others. Therefore it's important that you know the specifications of all the heads. If for example you're looking for a more open, higher tone you'll probably go for a one layer head (G1 clear or coated) and on the other hand, if you're looking for a dampenend 70s punch you'll like a Hydrolic. But still the head needs the right tuning for the right purpose. Therefore, the best sounding drumhead is this test isn't neccesarely the right head for you if you're looking for a different sound! I personally prefer the Hybrid Glass in this video. Still, on my drums I'd go for a G1 coated, a G2 coated, because I like a higher tuning, especially from the bottomhead. I currently use ec2 clear sst, i think best for a clear attack, tight bottom rocktom. Now i want the j1 etched for more dirty attack/round rockstuff. The company Thomann only has 10/12/13 inch. Evans says there are from 10 to 16inch. I need 8/10/12/14/16 inch. Evans, where can i find the 8?????

@marko19706 жыл бұрын
Totally, am 100% positive the drum mics where all eq'd, compression too !!! The microphone choices where cool, and to get such a round sound out of a 414, guarantees signal processing, plus it was tastefully done, though am not convinced they left everything the same for every head ;-) .

Clear G2 is the winner for me personally for rack tom. It's a toss up between that and the EC2 on the floor. I think Clear g2 with a moon gel is the best tone. Plenty of attack and sustain.

Any drum dial settings? Kit sounds great and dude great timing!
@TheDivergentDrummer6 жыл бұрын
you should be figuring out the resonant frequency of the shell first. Each drum / head combo will be different. I strip the shells down to just the lugs, hold em in my hand and play notes on the keyboard (loud!) until i feel the shell resonate in my hand. That will be the note that that shell most resonates at and is in harmony with. From there, tune the top head to that pitch, evenly, and fine tune it with the drum dial, so that you are at the desired note, and the drum dial is consistent across all lugs. Write down the note value for the shell as that will never change, and the DD tension gauge reading for those heads. Then, mutting the batter side, tune the reso, a minor third lower, get it tensioned evenly, and use the drum dial to dial it in to a number you can keep for reference. In this configuration, the top head will give you your pitch, and the bottom can be adjusted up or down to control the sustain. Try and stay within that minor third between the top and bottom.
