Bihar comes from the word "vihara," which means monastery. Bihar was the center of education and power for many centuries, but after dissappearing buddhism in bihar in the 12th century, bihar entered a dark age and is still suffering.

I can guess you are a neo Buddhist The downfall of the Bihar didn't start after the 12th century, But from about the time of 1857 after British government was thrown out from here in 1857 and the after several years they came back imposed many laws to destroy Bihar(or Bengal precidency) to keep people engaged for Bread and Butter only so that they can't think of freedom again. *A Fun Fact* : Bihar's economy after independence was even more than that of Tamilnadu . after independence due to policies like freight equalization policy and bad leaders the Bihar entered its *darkest phase* .

When I believe in tripitakas, 4 noble truths , 8 fold paths, and mahayana buddhism and more over my parents are hindus, I feel pity that in today's india there no true buddhism After destruction of scriptures and texts from Nalanda, odanthapuri, and vikramashila, how can you expect the people to receive knowledge of philosophy, science, and literature under a barbaric invaders rule. Till the British arrival, this region was ruled by Islamic rulers. Bihar was ravaged by feudalism, castesim,poverty, illiteracy, and lack of education. Just the crippling of the education system in bihar was enough to make it enter the dark age. The British took advantage of this n exploited them but didn't commit same level of atrocities in madras' presidency because of the people, that's why madras grew rapidly and made reforms cus people were more educated here.
