GREAT video Justin :) Wonderful exploring old places with you. :) Just a note on Tin ceilings, that I looked into once for my own home :) They became popular in the 1880's as decorative for ceilings, and originally were made of steel, then tin, to try to slow down rusting. The design was to mimic epensive plaster ceilings of the time. I read somewhere, that they were liked because they illuminated the candle light at night, giving more light to rooms. Another thing I read, was that they were installed as a fire prevention because of all the open flames used for various things at the time.

My best memory of Bodie is when I was there with my Dad at the Bodie dump right there in the park a few years ago. My Dad was old enough that he helped electrify the desert and he also had a sense of history. We stood their and he pointed out different items, what they were used for, and how long ago.

I love Bodie! If you ever get the chance, hike the loop off of Saddlebag Lake. Up above Steelhead Lake (part of the loop) is an old tungsten mine. The tungsten was mined then processed in Bodie. Very cool stuff! I've never stopped by Dog Town up in the Sierras... Only Santa Monica!

Dude, I'm only about midway through but I love these videos. Really informative and you really get a feeling for how much you love these places. I've never been to Bodie, so this has been incredibly informative. Two places I recommend you visit: Prescott, Arizona (where I live!) and Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Lots of history, really unique places. Obviously it can wait until after the coronavirus is less of a threat, but it'd be sweet to see your take on both places.

One of my favorites spots. I've seen photographs of the fire that destroyed much of the town. So sad. There is a terrific book called, "Mining Camp Days" by Emil Billeb. It's about living and working in Bodie and other mining towns in that area. Looking at the video of the stuctures that used tin cans and metal ceiling tiles, it's obvious that tin snips were a necessity

I find all this history fascinating. I am much more interested in how people lived rather than kings and queens in history. Plus when I was young western films were really popular, so another reason for enjoying seeing a town of the times. Amazing it lasted as long as it did before being totally abandoned. Great to see Landon and it looks like he is taking after his dad with this interest in history and the great outdoors, even if he did get a little fed up after a while. I hope your mouth settles down soon Landon. 4 of my grandchildren had the braces(in UK) so I know it can be very uncomfortable. But it will be very worth it in the end. I have a very sore mouth for a different reason so I do sympathise.

I would love to visit the place. I'd heard about Bodie in school. I was born and raised in California and always wanted to take a look at town. By the way, I was in grade school in 1962. In kindergarten. 🙂 I went to Bransford Elementry school in Fairfield California. Showing my age. Ole but young at heart and can still get around. 🙂. I love walking places like Bodie. It would be a nice place to do some sketching. As always Justin, great and educational video.
