Ghost Town of Nelson, Nevada - an hour from Las Vegas!

The Ghost Town - an American Old West classic. Nelson might not sound like much of a Ghost town name, but the town itself had a Wild West history full of violence, "renegade Indians," Gold and Silver, abandonment... all the classic staples of the old west... all an hour from Las Vegas and other than with wedding photographers, tragically little known! Acres of old cars, abandoned mining equipment, epic desert scenery worthy of john ford, extraterrestrials, a freezer full of rattlesnakes, and of course movie props, abandoned mineshafts, freak buses, and so much more!

Hear about the gent visiting Nelson and found a big gold nugget? Seems he pulled off the road a bit to relieve himself. Well sir as he tinkled he uncovered a gold nugget the size of his fist. WOW!! Talk about taking a golden shower!

Okay. LEE'S FERRY! That point was originally a Mormon fort and later a tiny ferry and launching off point for miners following the river to mining claims. Lee's Ferry had a bad history and Lee himself was the head of the Mormon Militia that killed a bunch of innocent women and children at the infamous "Meadows Mountain Massacre" and later Lee's Ferry ALMOST became a railroad town! A railroad survey was sent down the river to study the feasibility of building a railroad paralell to the Colorado River, the only artifact that remains from that effort is a scrawl in the rock "HISLOOP 1889" because the engineers correctly saw that building a railroad through that Canyon would be WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!! and they were right!
