I had three kids, two miscarriages, and two major abdominal surgeries, and my body will never be the same. That’s ok-I have brought forth life and survived because of the surgeries. It’s a privilege for women.

You are a brave and beautiful young woman. I am almost 70, my "baby" is 50, and I go to the gym 3x a week. My belly has that shelf and I've only had one baby. But I have had several surgeries and no matter how hard I work out, I have that belly. I was a divorced mom who worked a lot, so I didn't work out when I was your age. I love watching your boys grow. I live in Ecuador now but I lived in the US 60 years. It's so much easier to take care of myself now that I'm retired. You are such a sweet mommy. Your honesty about life is so so so refreshing.

Oh, sweet girl! I’m 52 and my “baby” is 20 yo and I still haven’t lost my pregnancy weight! 😂😂 And my husband and I have only left our first child once for a business trip when he was 1 yo and we’ve never left them since. He’s 24 now. 😂 I’m exactly like you, I just couldn’t bring myself to leave them. We were older parents and I didn’t want to leave them. We don’t just love them we actually like them! And I never did that “brunch”, “girls trips” thing either. I think mainly society tells us to do those things but doesn’t tell us it’s ok NOT to do them. Anyway, thanks for sharing!! Oh! And I had 2 c-sections so that shelf ain’t going anywhere! 😂

It’s not your pregnancy weight dear, you’re just fаt. Post partum weight gain goes away within a year. The rest is just lack of discipline and lack of commitment to a healthy body image. Basically, you’re just lazy.

I’m happy to blame my children (3 in less than 3 years before 21) for my loose skin & access weight on my belly! I’m now 64, had my Thyroid removed in my 40’s but have lost 120lbs and walk 5 miles a day, still have the stomach. The only solution is plastic surgery and honestly I just cannot justify the money or for vanity sake. Thank you for your honesty and sharing your real life with us.

oh friend. I heard 'should' waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many times. I'm firmly in the body acceptance camp, i go to pelvic floor therapy, and I've needed a few surgeries since my c-section babies. Your title was enough of a content clue, but I was still kind of sad watching this. You seem to just want to 'think out loud' about your health goals, which is totally fine. Some moments border on what people with eating disorders call 'body checking' which could be a very damaging habit to get into.

To this day, my mom will say her pudge is just baby weight. Someone will ask, "well how old is your baby?" and she grins, looks at me, and says, "44 years!" Anyway, thank you for being real! Childbirth is traumatic physically and emotionally, and we need to talk about it more. (I've been lucky to have friends who have been completely open and honest about what they went through to have their babies, and their experiences kind of reinforced my decision not to have kids.)

My mom had two kids my older sister and me, and since my birth way very hard for my mother (and I suppose for me as well) as I needed to be born as a micro preemie (and in 1990 when premature births were still so difficult) I was thank G-d delivered by C-section in in November and spent many months in the hospital, the doctor who delivered me, a Japanese-American made a beautiful string of origami cranes (they represent a good long healthy life in the Japanese culture). A woman's body goes through so much as it creates the perfect place for the growing baby, then also with feeding the baby from her breast, even when women needs to use formula, the body still will think its in breast feeding mode. A woman's organs literally move around to make place for a baby, and the baby will even leave some of their DNA in the mom's blood. A mom is forever connected to their baby, and none should feel so hard on themselves to look like they were before they carried a baby.

“Normalising” being overweight is not a healthy behaviour, it serves no one! There’s absolutely no excuse to gain more than 10 lbs during pregnancy (your baby weight half of that!) Plus there’s no excuse to still have extra fаt a month after giving birth. Body weight supposed to go back to normal and nealthy. No matter how many pregnancies, obviously! Western women simply are weak minded and have zero discipline. I was more fit after my pregnancy than before! ZERO excuses! My body deserves proper nutrition and care.

Oh. I didn’t realize thyroid issues could be due to pregnancy. I have a one centimeter growth in mine. I think I’m noticing the feeling of it more lately and I can’t get in until May to be seen for it. I do have a video chat today and hope they can get me in sooner once it was already found on a scan from my car wreck (i was not at fault). Anyway. I didn’t realize it could be connected to pregnancy. Man.
