Oscar Micheaux - (1884 to 1951) was a Black American independent film director, producer, and author. He created silent and sound films based on the black experience at a time when Vaudeville depicted black people as the stereotypes that prevail today. In particular, he challenged the race film Birth of a Nation (1915). Additionally, he was the author of several books with The Homesteader: A Novel (1917) as one of his best-known literary works that spoke of living off the land in the West.
Paul Robeson is featured in this film as a sinister minister. Also, this film features a lot of FBA vernacular when the silent clips are playing. Please be patient when watching.
