The courts have ruled that a law enforcement officer merely calling themselves police doesn’t meet the legal requirement of identifying themselves and there must be something visual that identifies them. The negative effects of this situation creates fear in our society and delayed reaction to those who truly need our help. Second Amendment rights or not, whether my weapon is on my person or is siting within line of view, I will never know what might trigger a cop or be any other aggressor, perpetrator, unexpected guest to react. Roger, was standing his ground due to flight or fight reaction. I have trouble accepting the reactive decision made the moment that door opened. Within seconds, shots were fired in full force. This puts fear and rage in the community based on how this was handled. It changes culture, societal norms, and promotes an anxiety driven world. This makes people think twice, even just to open their front doors. This holds back people from wanting to help real situations and victims where the help is then delayed. Those victims I’m talking about are those in life threatening situations needing critical care or escaped kidnapped victims or those in physical abusive situations. As an unfortunate measure to mitigate a potential fatal decision, yes this makes me want to think twice before opening my door for anybody. Talk to me through my RING camera so I know what you’re about or to let you know you’re at the wrong house.

The Department is lying when they said that the officer announced himself. 2:30 please pay attention here. At 2 minutes 30 seconds, the officer knocked on the door without announcing himself and then walked away out of view from the peephole of the door. At this point, the airman walked to the door and looked through the peephole and didn’t see any one. He went and retrieved his handgun as a safety measure just encase. The airman didn’t do anything wrong. Officers are trained to never stand directly in front of the door when responding to any domestic dispute. The officer was nervous and over reacted. The lethal force could have been prevented if this officer remained calm and communicated.

Here’s a scary life lesson: Do NOT open the door immediately, give yourself time and the opportunity to have a visual and to listen through the door, talk through the door at all means. Keep that door closed as your one last measure of protection. Maybe invest in RING video camera as a means to solemnly communicate and see whats on the other side clearly. You have no obligation to open your door to even law enforcement, unless presented with a warrant. Due to the reality of some anxious and reactive cops, like I’ve always been told, it’s important to to stay calm and to be respectful so they may stay calm… 😔 He thought he was safe in his own home. There are two things that is troubling about this incidents firstly, the young man answered the door with a weapon after the sheriff identified himself secondly, the officer fired shots without first telling him to drop the weapon.

Most likely he didn’t hear the cop announce himself. His girlfriend was on FaceTime with him and he heard the loud knocking then he went to retrieve his gun so maybe either he was too far away for him to clearly hear or he was too preoccupied with retrieving his gun.

Several instances of people banging on doors and yelling "Police" lately. I say the bodycam video and this officer just opened up on this innocent man. The gun was NEVER raised and the officer just blasted away WITHOUT REGARD for the situation. Just because someone else has a gun does not mean it's pointed your way or that you're in danger.

Especially when someone is not showing themselves in the peephole claiming to be LE. The guy never raised it it remained at his side at the ready. He did not announce, he knocked then waited. The facts will show that the airmen heard the knock and went to check the peephole. Saw nothing and went to get his legal weapon. The second knock likely occurred during this time and the airmen answered to the third knock with gun fully at his side. JFC to say I'm any way that the airmen is at fault for answering this form of knocking and hiding with his weapon in hand is insane and fully unamerican

Are you serious? 1. Every time he knocked, he immediately moved away from the peephole. You can’t just “sheriffs office” and move away from the peephole. I can tell you’ve never been in a bad neighborhood 2. He was brandishing a legally owned firearm, pointing it directly at the ground, and made no sudden movements 3.
