We have price lists and things from the brothels at the time so we can study such things. Once such a thing is locked in... it is doubtful that it can ever be changed. When the brain clicks on something, to a young child the way it manifests is just that the thing seems strangely and intensely fascinating. The amorous component comes later. Fun(?) fact: they actually pump air into your intestines and inflate them when they do a colonoscopy. It helps the camera get in there, and makes it easier to see what's going on inside. @@managarm5384 Honestly man? Everyone with sexual desires has some weird fetish. The only difference is that not everyone's weird fetish is uncommon. It's common to like boobs, but does that make it any less strange? I'd argue it doesn't. Boobs are, after all, lumps of fat with a gland attached at the end meant to feed infants. Pretty freakin' weird, but it's common, so nobody cares. Sexual desire as a whole is a weird thing. It's a desire to do something inherently unsanitary, something people would normally find quite gross, and something which most people find to be taboo. Yet people do it anyways. Fetishes like inflation are just an extension of that- a desire to do or see something taboo, weird, and even a little gross. I think all fetishes are an extension of it, really. So maybe it's more accurate to say there is no weird fetish at all. They are all ultimately rooted in something so common and so ordinary that it makes no sense to judge one for it.

As a prominent inflation artist (ZachsAnomaly) I gotta add a few things (for anyone interested) The biggest thing besides the feeling of helplessness or a roundness (the human mind just really likes curves. See: bewbs, butts, etc), is the idea of "an increasing feeling" which is probably subliminally tickling the part of the brain interested in climax and euphoria. The human brain is seeking patterns like those, and sometimes a weird fetish is just the brain being kind of right about what it was supposed to be focusing on (the body, sensations, etc) and just missing the hoop a little. Some of our brains get stuck on the "wrong" thing but if it doesn't hurt anyone, it's fine. Just be careful trying it in real life because like the examples given, it can be very dangerous. As for the guy who's butt inflated, yeaaaah that's what they do to cows to skin them in the leather industry. Air is pumped in to separate the flesh from the muscle so it just falls off. We split it into weight gain, pregnancy, breast inflation, belly inflation, butt inflation, and whole body inflation as the main categories, though some folks were only into inflating suits, like you said. Or just into balloons. They constituted the smallest number of viewers and contributors by a huge margin. There could easily have been a dozen smaller splits based on whether an image was photoshopped, furry, CG, and so on. The curse of taxonomy really reared its head at the time. We couldn't arbitrarily keep splitting it without making categories so narrow that there would be no content. Tag systems replaced the hierarchical splits in more modern times, but that was after the site got taken down by spammers.

I'm a furry artist with an over 20 year run and I think I can shed some light on the inflation. While I don't find the appeal of it myself, I've been commissioned that on multiple occassions as well as other neiches (though poop/pee stuff is on my 'Won't draw' list). My personal theory for why inflation is so popular with furries is because of it being a popular gag in old school cartoons. Watch any number of classic Bugs bunny cartoons, Tom & Jerry cartoons, Looney Tunes, Harvey tunes, basically anything with somewhat 'rubberhose' inspired animation. Usually it comes as a reasult of a cat 'n' mouse -style chase, there the chased gets tricked in sticking like an air hose or water hose in their mouth. Or a random short like 'King-Size Canary' where a canary, a cat and a dog drink growth formula. Even from something more recent, I recall an episode of Fairly Oddparents, where Cosmo gets a magic 'back-up' which causes him to inflate and explode into confetti. It's a popular gag that nobody even considered someone could find 'enticing'. I actually wrote a Psychology Master Thesis on inspiration and creativity, and how a lot of artists interests come from what they experienced either in their youth, or at key developmental moments, and then they refined them into a more specialized ways that they caught ther attention (take it however you want ^^'). Even the term 'Fetish' has been associated with sexuality since relatively recently, since it used to also mean 'object of (religious) worship', or fascination. Similar since the word 'gay' used to be more general term for 'happy/joyful'. Anyway, I hope this shed some light on furries and general psychology. Hope you don't mind us being weird ^^

I've traditionally found that people with the weirdest, creepiest fetishes are almost _always_ the most chill, pleasant people I have ever met--and it's because people are _always_ more comfortable with themselves when they can exercise ALL of their personalities, even those that are perhaps weird or abnormal. I've found people with strange fetishes to be equally strange as people. They can hardly string a sentence together, and they seem to have unresolved trauma. They tend to spread positivity, though, so I guess I can't hate them. People with creepy fetishes tend to be the most miserable people to talk to. Ask a lolicon their opinion on any topic, and they're bound to spew vitriol. Shotacons and r*pe enjoyers will call their fetish art wholesome. I get that things involving children tend to be seen as wholesome, but applying it to porn is a twisted and perverse outlook. R*pe enjoyers have no excuse.

As someone whose first social media/website was DeviantArt in the early 2010's, I actually really appreciate the note that a lot of these people are mostly "normal" and super chill, its just online we only see this weird fetish thing we don't understand so we base our entire understanding of these people on their online presence. I might not understand why whatever specific thing is what gets their rocks off, but it's cool how chill Mr. Blowup was, that he had friends and a partner to bond with this.

I feel like the early 2000's was when there was a bit of a boom of people getting inflation fetishes, not just because of the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory remake but also the Aunt Marge inflation scene in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as the Harry Potter franchise was 'blowing up' in popularity at the time. (And a few other examples as media around this time was pretty weird.) That aside, this was a nice, nuanced video! Mr. Blowup in particular seemed like a really wholesome guy who had a happy life blowing up in his suits with his wife & friends.
