Great video!!!! I found it really interesting but I have a question that is not really related to the surgery but kind of is. You mentioned the procedure itself can take several hours. Do you actually stand in the OR for all those hours, do you take a break, do you have different teams who scrub in and out of the OR? If there are two doctors, who does what? How do the logistics of the whole thing work? Might be an idea for a video/podcast, just explaining how it all works. I have no idea how these things works. Thanks

Hi Heather! That's a great question! Yes, we do stand/work the entire time. The OR staff does get regular breaks (required by law) but the surgeon works until the job is done. For longer cases we utilize a 'first assistant', this is a specially trained surgical assistant who can reduce the overall surgical time. In cases where there are two surgeons (or more) working they generally work in tandem as well.

I'm sure you must exhausted after a gruelling day of surgery like that. Would you stagger your days by having an office day the next day then a surgery day then an office day? Can you do two short procedures on one day? I'm just curious to know how long some surgeries take and who does what in the OR. Oh, and one more question. Are patients awake for certain surgeries? Are some patients intubated and some just receive conscious sedation?

Some cases are mentally challenging but the physical part we are completely used to. It's not uncommon to have 3+ shorter surgeries in one day or 1-2 longer surgeries. We have a great episode talking about who is in the OR and what they do, it's episode 59, Inside the Operating Room. All of our in-office surgeries are done with the patient awake with local anesthesia and sometimes a pill to help them relax. Most OR surgeries are done with asleep anesthesia, either general or sedation.

2 questions.. Is a body lift the same thing as a 360 tummy tuck? Can you do a breast lift with this lower body lift at the same time?

Hi Adrian, thanks for watching! I've never heard the term 360 tummy tuck but it does seem to imply a bodylift or circumferential lift. Depending on the lenght of a bodylift your surgeon may or may not feel comfortable adding on a breast lift but they can in theory be done at the same time. Hope that helps!

One question that wasn’t discuss is “What position does the patient sleep in for a 360 body lift?” Tummy tuck has knees and waist bent but that is a problem with the back cut. Please advise.

Hi Joanie, thanks for watching! Yes, sleeping comfortably after a bodylift presents a challenge. Ideally you can find a very supported sleeping position that supports your knees without putting excess tension on your back. A slight bend in the knees should not be uncomfortable but laying on the incision can be so having lots of pillows and blankets to bolster is very helpful.

I'm looking into having a 360 body lift but also need a breast lift with augment. Should I do the 360 1st? I'm concerned that if I have the breasts done 1st, the pulling down of the anterior abdomen will cause a displacement/ slightly inferior movement of my "perky" breasts.

Hi Monica! Thanks so much for watching! That's a great question and the timing of surgery can be key to having an optimal outcome. A properly performed bodylift will not impact your breast surgery or cause your breast to sag just like having a breast lift will not lift your abdomen. :)

I’m 5’2 had 3 kids got up to 205 with pregnancy had c-sections and a lot of extra skin and stretch marks all around my waist would u recommend this surgery at 135lbs

Hi Alicia, thank you for watching! A body lift may be a good option for you but you may only need a tummy tuck with or without flank liposuction. The only way to know for sure is to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. As we discussed in this episode, a body lift is an amazing surgery but more complicated then a tummy tuck. Both surgeries can address the abdomen but only a body lift will address excess skin of the low back and glutes. Hope that helps!

Yes, a body lift is sometimes referred to as a belt lipectomy.
