The body type series has helped me to accept my body so much. Through the eras there was always this pressure to be something to be considered attractive... to be more slender or to be more curvy. Realising that I’m a soft classic helped me understand my body so much more. It also made me realise I’ve been given the perfect body for exactly who i am. Thank you Aly, we missed you, looking forward to the next video.

Same! The previous model I was using, the inverted triangles and pears and houglasses shapes can't even compare to this, which makes way more sense to me. It made me accept myself for who I am 😄

Same for me :) Dramatic Classic.
@FreshCreativeFrog254 жыл бұрын
Same here! It’s incredible how accurate this system is... Forget that “Pear, Hourglass, Apple, Inverted Triangle etc” crap, it always used to steer me into confusion and bad style choices. Kibbe’s system is so miraculously accurate and so much more realistic. I pity anyone who still compares their body to an Apple and never considers individual bone structure and the way flesh sits on those bones! Same goes for makeup and face shapes. I never pay attention to “oval, circle, square, heart, diamond, etc” classifications anymore!

11:48 I want to add that this is the "Teddy boy" style, that started around 1957 and by 1962 was already over. Its important to divide the three eras in the 60s: The Jackies (1960-63, was just an extension of the 50s and had the same makeup) the Mod (1964-66, had the twiggy look) and the nostalgia-nouveau(1967-1970, which people usually mistake by "hippie" but there was never a "hippie" fashion (to claim that was is to claim that the movement had a fashion industry behind, and that is far from truth, LOL). It makes a lot easier for people who never seen 60s fashion to understand. :) Oh, and the mod fashion was more about looking like a child, be it boy or girl. It was a context where boomers blamed parents for the wars and everything wrong with the world, and so was born the "Youthquake" movement. =D Yes, I am obssessed with the 60s =P

yess everything that i was thinking. i would recommend the Ultimate Fashion History on yt to anyone who wants to learn! its very very extensive AND fun. i feel like Aly forgot in her research for this video to think of a decade not as one consistent thing but as a constantly changing one where the beginning is a continuation of the previous decade and the end is the start for another. fashion is not dictated by our calendars anyway, really.
@deonnairis4 жыл бұрын
gal strauss I don’t think she was going through a history of trends through the decades... just if you looked to the past this is what works for your body type. Even the title doesn’t say trends through the decades. I personally didn’t watch this for a history lesson because that’s not what she said this video was.

Amazing and scientific as always! It's uncanny, I was just compiling a look book of iconic Soft Natural makeup styles throughout the decades (1950s to now) and I was just thinking how much I liked the early 70s! It's very interesting, if you look at the Soft Natural women who looked good, their style tends to either be behind or ahead of the curve, because they're sticking to the lines and styles that suit them e.g. Jane Fonda looked very similar in the 60s and 70s because she found that Soft Natural style and stuck with it.

I would love to be a Theatrical Romantic 😌
@marleyen4 жыл бұрын
@@jasmeen5712 your body type is beautiful for sure 👍I am a Theatrical Romantic and I always wanted to look a different way. Came down to what was considered beautiful, like "skinnier legs", the longer, straighter, "model" version of which I'll never have, but dramatics might have. I'll never be able to wear head to toe "model" clothes sewed for naturals, which I always liked. I'll never have sharper facial features, even if I starve I'll just look sick, not "cool". And from 14 to 19 I considered my butt excessive/not fitting into clothes I wanted, and not "sexy curvy" (a thing others say to me). And there are times when I HATE the hourglass shape, because yes, it is perceived by many people as sexy, and there are a looot more moments in life when you DON'T want to look sexy. Like at the bank, during a job interview... or at midnight anywhere. Because some ppl just look on my shape and not on the ambitious, educated etc. person I want to be looked at. Previously I tried to hide "excessive" curves behind plain clothes but they still come through + I don't want to look ugly, it's another thing. So the Kibbe theory helped me a lot to 1. understand why I intuitively tend to wear a certain type of clothes. 2. to wear this type rationally, especially when I want to control how I look in others' eyes (like in the job interview example) 3. Understanding that every type is beautiful in its own way, you should just underline what you like in yourself with certain clothing lines. Every type can look cute, confident or womanly, same styles can be built up with different body types clothes. And I'd advise to reconsider the own body and try to like anything you can't alter, f.e. your body type, because it's just natural. That's what should be called body bositivity. 4. Finally. Did anyone care about own shapes as a kid? No. Because no kid is born with the feeling "not to fit into a certain type". It's just what got into your brain during the years, and Kibbe helps your brain to alter that society-imposed attitude.

This totally did not go how I expected it to. The fact that there has always been some kind of extreme yin --- extreme yang spectrum to be found in fashion of all eras was really surprising to me, but at the same time it makes sense. to jump straight into 1938 i think is an incorrect representation of the 30's i personally think that the 1938 to 1940 is its own under appreciated clothing time capsule where the soft 30's start becoming the more structured 40's. The more predominate 1930's style is more 1931 to 1937 still a relatively straight line, natural waist line with ruffles and other dramatic elements like fur, silk, organza much more soft and floaty. Just my 2 cents as some one who has delved deeply into looking at how fashion changed year by year and why we have certain ideas of what a whole decade looked like e.g the flapper look
