Take a look back at the last century of banned fashion, from restrictions on the use of bird feathers in hats in the 1910s, and women's shorts being banned in the 1930s in some cities, to the flag-printed protest clothing of the 1970s and the illegal counterfeit purses that rose to popularity in the 1990s.

On the fur discussion it is also important to discuss that most faux fur is polyester or acrylic based which are both plastics. These significantly add to the microplastic and microplastic fibers in ecosystems not just at end of use but every time they are cleaned or shed particles during wear. Trading fur for faux fur is, in many ways, just moving to another ecological problem.

Men in the 1900's were actually stupid. They could not make up their mind for anything. No shorts no pants, cover yourself up on the beach (now it's show off your body at the beach). Thank god people _don't really_ care how women dress now. Edit: Stressing the "dont really" because some people still do care what women wear, but dress codes against women now aren't as insane as they were back then.

@soupforfree
@soupforfree 3 жыл бұрын
@Lucky Twelve my school had rules where a guy could wear an outfit and it didn't go against any of his rules, but a girl would wear it and get in copious amounts of trouble. (In protest, boys started wearing only these outfits.) One group of around 20 girls (including me!) signed a petition to have these rules changed, and the girl who originally organized the petition got sent to detention. FOR CALMLY SHOWING THE TEACHERS THE PAPER! This proceeded to make her mother so mad, that *she* made a petition, and had 200 people sign it. (It got on the news!) So the teachers backed down in defeat and removed the dress code. (We literally don't have one anymore.) So now the teachers are too scared of us (or specifically, our parents) and haven't made a new dress code.

Some places they would still lose their mind over women wearing pants- some cults that even exist in the USA would lose it! Also in the ME- one country not only can women NOT show any skin or wear anything form-fitting that is seen, they also can’t even show their eyes!!! It’s crazy to see these ppl out in the world- I remember seeing a ME family while I was in Europe and this disgusting man was walking around in shorts, with his belly exposed as his shirt was pulled up to expose it (it was a hot day, but even so, 🤮🤮🤮🤮) and there next to him was his prisoner, I mean wife, draped head to toe in heavy black fabric!! Because most men fashion is not that 'out of the box' or 'revolutionizing' as new women fashion is. Especially formal fashion. I mean, just look at the newsreports, what politicians or business ppl are wearing. Men: all in the same suit with more or less the same tie Women: all types of clothing The only thing that offers more choice for men instead of women are watches. But hey, a watch is just a small accessory, so chances of a ban on it are way smaller.

I understand the slap bracelets, some of them are made poorly so when wearing them, the wrappings became very worn off and it exposes the thin sharp edge metal that can slit the wrist. kids use them as swords or they become weaponized when straightened. I remember hitting random objects by the edge of the bracelet and it leaves a mark on the surface.

I was looking for a comment like this because the end of the video bothered me too. it's hard to find a perfect way to have fur and leather, whether they're faux or not because overproducing and consuming plastic isn't eco friendly, but buying real fur has its own problems too. i think rather than saying "faux fur is better" or "real fur is better" we should look at the effects of both. this problem isn't black and white like the last part of the video makes it seem.

A friendly reminder to everyone (& Glamour, you really should have included this in the video), that the feather bans were also 100% used to criminalize Indigenous peoples who used feathers in their clothing/etc. Many of these communities would only use found feathers, which was part of their significance, & would also pass feathers down. That didnt matter, though, Indigenous folks would be fined &/or incarcerated for their use of feathers under these laws despite the fact that these communities were absolutely not contributing to declining bird populations & the fact that some of the feathers / clothing using feathers were spiritually significant or essential to performing certain ceremonies, etc.

It was just general sexism at the time.

Faux fur is NOT a good alternative. Neither is faux leather /pleather. This is something I've only recently learned after years of buying faux leather jackets. Fake fur and fake leather is all just plastic, and is harmful to the environment, namely the ocean. Especially faux fur, since the individual hairs are all just strands of super dangerous microplastic. I've decided that if for some reason I really need fur or leather for something, I will buy the real deal secondhand, like at a Goodwill. That way I'm not giving money to either harmful industry. Try that too

@@funtimenotalongtime6122 Nah I don't agree with this. I feel weird about wearing real animal products on my skin seeing as I don't eat them either, and thus would not want to buy them secondhand. However for those who do, it's not funding the industry that produces it or increasing the demand in any way, so I don't see an issue with it.

Leather and fur are so heavily treated (to a point where it's detrimental to the third world countries they are processed in) they do not decompose naturally.

@@funtimenotalongtime6122 It's marginally better than supporting the industry directly, since your money is going to Goodwill and not the manufacturers who support killing animals for textiles. So, yes, it is still better.

M G on one hand I will fight you over the right to wear swimwear that doesn’t make you self conscious. On the other hand over here it’s culturally expected for people to uncover their face for identification or security reasons especially when asked by police, which causes friction with cultures who cover their face. So... you’re not exactly wrong.

Tbh most guys don't even stare anymore, it's only the sad super sexist dudes that stare and it's just not a problem but yet school administrators pretend that it is and it hurts everyone. Girls get punished for wearing comfortable clothing and guys get put into the sexist creeper box. The problem is with the old guys in charge of the public schools that actually are sexist or borderline pedophiles.
