I noticed that too. It reminds me of my Mom's dementia, which this lady may be suffering from. The mind can play terrible tricks on you. It's so sad. I'm glad they were able to apprehend her w/o anyone getting hurt. Update: I've been told by @Some Rando that this woman's dementia was meth induced and she has kidnapping on her own rap sheet. Regardless, I'm still glad the police were able to apprehend her without bloodshed. I hope she can get clean and get the help she needs and be a better person.

The fact that there are actually people in this comment section saying the cop didn’t handle the situation properly and he should have “de-escalated” the situation blows my mind. @@hibarikyoya854 we have but there’s limits to battery energy density while remaining safe not to mention the physics of it. Imagine a cellphone battery that could power a car for a moment. Basically it’s like a full tank of gas condensed into a little 3x4 inch square. That thing would be a bomb. I don’t know if you’ve seen a Tesla go up in flames but batteries unlike gasoline can burn by themselves because of how they work the fuel air mixture that gas requires exists within the a battery. So it can combust and burn by itself. Now imagine that Tesla car battery fire attached to a little camera on your body.

@19Frank12
@19Frank12 2 жыл бұрын
@@UnkownUser2001 In a situation where nobody was harmed but you seem to have an armed person in an undefined irregular psychocologial state the police's task is not to kill them but to prevent or minimize harm done to anybody, including the armed woman. I do not see how preparing to shoot a firearm in a crowded area like Walmart would achieve that. Tazers might sometimes be unreliable but just like guns, which can clog, they are regularly examined by the police and you expect them to work. That argument makes no sense as you are basically saying I'd rather want to be sure to shoot the person than risk to fail in solving the confrontation with non-lethal force. Entering a confrontation with the highest escalation level will largely increase the risk of violence. Pointing a gun at somebody will make you their enemy while negotiating and still being able to incapacitate them will make cooperation more likely. Police is supposed to enforce public safety for everybody, not to eliminate confused and potentially dangerous individuals. There is enough footage of police in other countries defusing confrontations with gunmen or other armed persons without any violence, or non-lethal violence like batons, peppers pray or tazers. Almost all of these countries have lower crime rate, lower incarceration rate and lower casualties on both sides compared to the US. Seems to be working. And don't get me wrong. A (trained at least) attacker with a knife is extremely dangerous, especially at close range and I sure would want to ensure I'm getting out alive. But that's true no matter what I wield and claiming that immediately going for lethal force would be the right decision is irrational

@Tourmaline Brown Not the same. When people film the police it's usually after a situation has escalated. A lot of times it looks like a cop shot someone out of nowhere, or they sent a dog after someone because he didn't do what the cop said the first two times. Even worse, some people edit those videos and release them just to get a reaction from people. With a body cam, the entire situation including what lead to the escalation is recorded. And the police will only release it with the full context. There have been times when even news agencies edit out parts of the video that shows a suspect holding a knife. Sean reed livestreamed himself running from police on facebook, leading to him getting shot after dropping his phone/camera while running away. People were outraged that police shot an unarmed back man that was running away. The media fanned the flames for weeks until police investigation uncovered that he drive by shot into peoples houses for fun, that for 3 frames in his video you can see his gun in his waistband, and that in the cops body cam he literally died shooting at police. I'm not saying that recording police is bad, but it is nowhere near as good or unbiased as police bodycams. There are countless times I've seen people recording police, screaming at them that the man they're holding at gunpoint and trying to arrest did nothing wrong. When in actuality they're doing a felony traffic stop, where they know the guy is dangerous and likely armed. Because they know who they're arresting and are looking for him specifically, or they just ran his plates. Or the guy had just finished running away from a previous crime and the police caught up to him. Don't even get me started about 3 recording bystanders screaming "HE ISN'T RESISTING," when 3 cops combined effort can't even get the guys hands behind his back. It just plays on your feelings to make a situation look way worse than it is.

I think that he did a really good job toward the end lowering his voice and calming the situation. Much better than most cops I’ve seen. I do think there was probably more that could be done. Still holding the non lethal saying things like “what’s going on? What’s the problem? Are you okay?” And stuff speaking to her, and I think shouldn’t have come in yelling esp once there were no civilians right around her, but I don’t blame the cop because we don’t even teach almost any deescalation tactics here like they do in other countries. Overall he did a pretty good job. I think making sure she wasn’t deaf or has a heart condition would be good before gazing but it doesn’t sound like she was deaf. But yeah this is prbly in the top 5% in terms of deescalation in the videos I’ve seen from America.

If they wait for her to come to her senses (deescalate) then she could decide at some point to throw the knife, or who knows what (maybe run), and hurt someone (possibly a bystander). This is exactly how every officer needs to act, I bet there are people saying she didn't do anything but that is wrong she had a weapon in hand and wasn't listening to orders it's her own fault for walking around Walmart with a knife in hand
@keithwatson8228
@keithwatson8228 2 жыл бұрын
Well that's not really against the law. So what exactly is she doing? Of course we don't know what happened before that. But if all she's doing is caring a knife, Walmart sells those. So it's obviously not illegal.
@amnxesiia
@amnxesiia 2 жыл бұрын
@@keithwatson8228 if she was just holding the knife because, as you are saying, she is in a store that sells them, she would have put the knife down as she was told or she would have tried explain why she was holding it. She is holding a weapon. She is a moving danger and if the officer had the same thinking as you, she could have easily hurt herself or others. So no, it's not legal to run around the store with a knife in a store and the officer warned her several times. He had the right to do it, to keep save all the other people in the store. She doesn't look like a sane person who " just holds a knife because she can do it "

Reading the comments here reminds me of how incredibly ignorant some people are. This officer did a fantastic job. He took control of the situation, gave clear commands, waited until the right moment to switch to non-lethal, and then neutralized the threat without seriously hurting anyone. Idk what else people want. Edit: Because multiple people who clearly don't understand the basics of KZbin are calling me liar, the negative comments get disliked enough that they are funneled to the bottom of the comments. Since this video has now been out for weeks, there are so many comments that finding them is going to be difficult since all the positive comments will appear first.

He didn't wait this long because of good hearted, he waited for his partner to get there so he can switch to non lethal which does require him to take an aim off the suspect, which he can't do safely on his own. situation handled like a pro.

yah because of his training he was forced to flag at least 3 visible people probably more hidden from sight by the cloths, if he had switched to tazer before his partner arrived or lowered his gun so the path of the bullet wouldn't travel well past the lady he would have received some type of punishment from dispatch

This officer was completely justified in his actions, he gave her multiple warnings to drop a deadly weapons, and following the use of force guidelines he safely neutralized the threat without putting any of the officers or bystanders life's in danger. Props to this officer for handling this well.

To those who say the officer is not justified, Exactly how would you diffuse the situation? (POV: Words don't work as we see here and the threat has a weapon with the intent to kill) Without even looking at the responses I can tell you would be wrong.

@@GMBethHarmon Mentally ill or not, she was breaking the law. Seeing law breakers get justice is rewarding. Another scenario that is far more likely than mental illness is drugs. Drugs are a choice and the ramifications are well known. Do drugs and act a fool, have a talk with Mr. Sparky.
