I read a comment on Quora yesterday from a mom: She said that she gave her daughter a notebook and she told her daughter that whenever she had questions she was too embarrassed to ask in person, she should write the question in a notebook and then give it to her mom. This way, the daughter doesn't have to stand in front of her mom and ask a question that might be embarrassing for her, and the mom said that she told her daughter she would read the questions at night and give her an answer the next day in the notebook. The mom said that this was great for her too because if her daughter were to ask a question that might upset her, she didn't want her daughter to see that expression of surprise, horror or perhaps some anger on her face. I think that's brilliant.

When my daughter came to me when she was 16 and told me she was pregnant I supported her. Even though she was scared. I knew deep down. I wasn't buying pads and tampons like usual. For those who don’t know, it was discovered that she was pregnant at a hospital, she then denied being pregnant and locked herself in a bathroom. She gave birth while locked in the bathroom for 20 minutes and staff were trying to get her out. Before leaving she smothered the newborn baby under a trash bag, the body was discovered while staff were cleaning blood out of the bathroom. She went back to her hospital room, where her mother was continued to deny being pregnant so that her mother couldn’t find out that she was sexually active, and the hospital staff confronted her along side a sheriff deputy that was called. Neither the girl or her mother took the situation as serious as it was, knowing the fact that she murdered her newborn child. This was all in a hospital, where she could have denied visitation from her parents and adopted out the child, but she killed her son in a bathroom and left his body alone in the trash. She is an adult, she was a mother, she went through nine months of pregnancy and hid it from her parents, and she killed the one thing that trusted her the most in the world. She took an entire lifetime from her own child. She doesn’t deserve sympathy.

My daughter and her husband just adopted a safe haven baby which makes it legal to surrender a baby to a hospital with no worry of getting prosecuted. At 19 my little girl had cervical cancer the chemo and radiation worked and she is now cancer free but it left her unable to have babies. It was such a gift the mother and father that surrendered our little bundle of joy to the hospital did for our family. They made me and grandfather and my wife a grandma and the happiness i see in my daughter now is so wonderful to see and i will always be so grateful to the birth parents for doing the right thing whoever they are and i hope they're both at peace and know the decision they made was a good one and they should be proud of themselves. If only this young lady had made the same decision. The safe haven law should be publicized more and maybe another birth mother won't make the same decision this girl did.

My son was 17 when my grandson was born. He has been a single parent for the last 8 yrs. I was heart broken for how difficult life was going to be for my son - he hadn't completed high school yet & his girlfriend started using drugs again shortly after giving birth. My husband & I made sure our boys knew they could come to us, no. matter. what. 10 yrs on & I can't imagine life without my grandson!

Her bump was huge, everyone around her had to know she was pregnant, it was impossible not to tell. She knew, her mom knew, the boyfriend and his mom knew as well. Kids listen up. We as parents love you more than anything in the world. The shame on your family dealing with this type of situation after the fact is more harmful than dealing with the news that you're pregnant. I had a friend go through this in high school. She delivered the baby at home and dumped it in the trash. It tore not only her family apart but our entire community. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
