I loved the first part of pickin,,Where you had the camera in the gravity box.Brought back memories of me as a kid riding in the gravity box while dad picked corn, I am 54 years old now and Dad passed away when I was 12 so its been awhile but still the best memories!!! Keep up the great videos! I like seeing the farmers like you guys who are the REAL farmers with the smaller farms and equipment not the corporate farms .Thank you for the look into your life!

My Grandpa's farmed till I was 12 & 15 in '72 & '75. My Dad left the farm after graduating high school in '55. I so enjoyed working with them.

it may not have been the yields you wanted but it wasn't wasted on the ground its in the wagons and can be used not a total loss ..not being a corn person i was surprised when these bright yellow cobs with the odd red kernel just appear out of a dark brown mess ..well done for getting what you did

Difference between being in debt up to your eyeballs and farming on your own dime... Difference between worrying how you're gonna handle 25,000 acres when the weather won't cooperate so you can pay for that couple million bucks of new paint sitting in the barn, with the notes coming in the mail... Difference between having to pay back a few million in operating loans so you can get more loans next year... Later! OL J R :)

With corn to look that horrible to have that old tr70 pick it up was very nice. In the first shot it showed an ear picker but this field was better served with a combine.

I had some corn fields get flooded five times in 2019 and they I looked way better than that the best one did 178 bushel to the acre dry hopefully this year will be better for everybody

Reminds me of one time back in Grandpa and Grandma's day, she told the story... One year it rained SO MUCH that NOBODY could get anything planted, them included. This was back when Grandpa was farming with a pair of Fords, an NAA and a Golden Jubilee, and planting with a two row planter driven off a sprocket that clamped over the brake drum, an old two row lister planter... Anyway, it was like the middle of May which is at least a month late for cotton, and they FINALLY got a long enough break in the rain to plant... Grandpa went to the field and "mudded" it in, at some points he was just dropping seed on top of the ground to keep from getting stuck-- he'd had to raise the planter so it was BARELY scratching the mud, not even enough to cover the seed. The neighbors waited for another week or so to plant, to let the ground dry out and firm up. She said she wouldn't have given you a plug nickel for those crops when the came up-- looked like h3ll and figured it'd all be a bust. Well come harvest time they made 3.5 bales/acre, which back then was practically unheard of high yields, while the neighbor that waited for good soil conditions another week or two to plant, he ended up with 1/4 bale to the acre, barely worth picking rather than plowing under... Just goes to show, you never can tell... Later! OL J R :)

How do you like the RK/Federal corn in the later maturity? I plant a lot of 110-113 day, and have toyed with the idea of trying a few acres of the Federal just for the heck of it. Paying for triple stack corn isn’t paying real well last couple years.

RK112-16 is our favorite. It's been solid for us. With the wet weather, I'm wary of longer season corn, that's why I tried some 102 day. The issue with rural King, is finding someone who knows what they are doing with the corn seed. They have for options for 112 day and none of them are differentiated in the computer.

GuseBerries Double R Guse Farms no offense, but I’ve planted Beck’s before, and will never again. I asked about a row of compact tractors lined up at a dealer once 4 years ago, and they said “those are rewards for the top Beck’s customers in the area”. I have a neighbor that has a tool chest and two deere air compressors still wrapped in the plastic over the years from Beck’s rewards. If Beck’s can hand out grain trailers, air compressors and tractors, they could stop that and sell their seed a lot cheaper. I’ll stick with AgriGold and Channel.

Ryan Daugherty I am sorry you feel that way, I find the commitment rewards program is a way that Becks can add value to a farm of any size. I think you will find that their price is in line if not cheaper than most competitors. If I can buy seed, and get a good deal for a piece of needed farm equipment, freeing up capital, it is a win win. If you speak with a dealer, you can pass on a commitment item, and get a reduced price on your seed, however due to the volume of tractors, grain trailers, seed tenders, etc that they are able to move, it is a far better value to sign a multi year deal, and get a new piece of needed equipment. Not to mention, they are the only seed company that sources traits from all technology providers. I recommend giving them an honest look, I went 100% on my farm in 09 and have had nothing but a wonderful experience. Not to mention the 100% replant policy.

I had to do some replant last year. For the cost of seed from any dealer, I better get replant seed every year, whether I need it or not. I don't plan on needing replant seed any year. For a farm so small like us, I can almost guarantee Beck's would laugh, and we would never qualify for whatever customer rewards stuff mentioned.

@@boehmfarm4276 What's land renting for in your area? I have no idea what it is here, I don't rent any land. Dad used to rent and like you had to settle for farms nobody else wanted to mess with; he got a high paying job as a truck driver and later warehouseman at the nuke plant they were building down south of Bay City, TX in the late 70's, and never looked back. Tried farming "on the side" a couple years and realized he was doing 10X the work for 1/10 the pay farming sh!tty rented ground compared to what he was doing and getting paid at the nuke plant, so he let his land go, sold his half of the equipment to Grandpa, and just helped him a little on weekends as needed... Until Grandpa died when I was 11 and he trained me to take it over, within a couple years he pretty much turned the whole thing over to me and Grandma. Landlords are like everybody else... think whatever they have is pure gold and don't want to pay one thin dime to do needed improvements... and if they do they want to jack the rent up sky high... For the past two, probably three years, we've been almost ten inches of rain above average. Planting was late, so the corn didn't dry, and then it was rainy some more. My ear corn picking habit may not have been the most helpful, but handling and storage of ear corn is less stressful, and I had a ready buyer.
