The Kenya Airways cabin crew are best. I have travelled by American Airline, Emirates, Delta, Lufthansa, Swissair, Air Canada. Spirit, Frontier, KLM, etc. None of them is comparable to the KQ crew. Cabin service is superb, and food is good and tastes natural. Besides, the pilots and their officers are great. Flights are smooth. One feels at home on a KQ Airplane. I love Kenya Airways and KDF.

Great Video.. Proud of our KQ pilots! Quick one.. Why would landing with Flaps 40 have been "terror" (as per the words of the Captain)?
@CallsignBookworm
@CallsignBookworm Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Much appreciated. As for your question, when we are at cruise and are just about to commence descent, we normally get the weather and calculate our landing distance, time required for brake cooling after landing before next flight, brief on what to expect etc. Due to these factors, at that point in time, the landing flap that favoured our operations was flap 40 but after we heard of gusting conditions, we decided to do a flap 30 landing. A flap 40 landing in gusting conditions is very difficult as the speed oscillates up and down and may result to a flap exceedance which is a serious event that can lead to aircraft damage. Thank you for your great great question. Brilliant! Asante.

The calls were made but I cut the audio unintentionally which I discovered upon upload. Also about the lights, we did not think that the actual visibility would have been that bad. If there is no visual contact with the runway, we'd fly back up into the skies and either divert to the nearest airport or join a racecourse pattern and wait for the conditions to be better. The left seat pilot (Captain) is always in charge or in control of the aircraft while it's on the ground, more so because he has a tiller(steering wheel) on his/her side that helps in taxiing while on the ground. If I had a tiller on my side(right) I'd maintain control all the way to the parking stand. Thank you for your question. Much appreciated.

@@CallsignBookworm if you look closely, you are missing a cover panel on the I-beam between both your windshields. That missing panel also is called a trim. A majority of these interior pannels in the cockpit are also commonly known as 'royalite pannels.' This is what I'm talking about. I don't think you'd be flying without your flight surfaces trim controls lol

🤣😅 Yeah it's missing. Sorry I misunderstood your question. It has several panels missing in the flight deck but seems to be within the minimum required for airworthiness. It's an old aircraft and it should be retiring soon 🤣😅

Planes with no autopilot must really struggle in a landing like this
@CallsignBookworm
@CallsignBookworm Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. The workload is quite high and may reduce the margins for error. In addition, bigger planes like the B777 and dreamliner have autolands(automatic landing systems) that aid in landing the aircraft safely with minimal crew intervention. Thank you and much appreciated.

Why do you check to see if the TAT is above 10?
@CallsignBookworm
@CallsignBookworm Жыл бұрын
We check to see if TAT is above 10 degrees because when it is below 10, AND you encounter any kind of visible moisture that is rain, a cloud, mist, fog, ..ice will be formed on the aircraft. Icing is not good for an aircraft as it destroys lift, increases drag and can cause damage to engines if ingested. Thank you for your question. Much appreciated.

When do you disengage autopilot?
@CallsignBookworm
@CallsignBookworm Жыл бұрын
Minimum autopilot disengagement height is 50ft. You can disengage it anytime before, if you wish. Thank you for your question. Much appreciated.

That 180° backtrack turn is too much. They should construct a 90° turn to a taxiway that leads to the apron.

Supposed you dont see the runaway at 500 ft what will you do as a pilot.
@CallsignBookworm
@CallsignBookworm Жыл бұрын
If you do not see the runway at 500ft you continue down to a decision height that was 200ft above the runway(4502ft). If at 200ft, you do not see the runway, you fly up and back to the skies where you'll either go and wait until the conditions are better or divert to a nearby airport. All in all, we always carry enough fuel to the destination and also to an alternate airport that has good forecasted weather so there should be nothing to worry about.
