When you look at the cutaway #43 is the crew rest at the back of the aircraft. #39 says it is sleeping berths for 16 #40 says it is optional overhead sleeping and lounge units I was wondering if #39 and #40 exist in current Lufthansa 747 or any other airlines 747s
@andiscott8470 Жыл бұрын
I believe that is/was the "SkyLoft" concept and maybe has only been installed on one BBJ 747-8 for a Middle East royal operation. I know Greenpoint Technologies designed it into a project, not sure if it ever happened though.

it's called Aeroloft, there is a video on YT showing some 3D graphics about it. It's part of the business variant BBJ-747-8 which is targeted at companies and goverments. I found an article stating 8 countries bought some of those sleeping berths

Lufthansa provided a multitude of re-design inputs for this B-747-8 I aircraft to the Boeing commercial airplanes corporation. This might be the reason why Lufthansa has so many of these in use and has ordered eight more for delivery by the year 2025.
@greatflyer_aviation2 жыл бұрын
So glad that Lufthansa contributed to the survival of the (non-freighter) 747 legacy!
@TonyM132 Жыл бұрын
I don't know what you might've been thinking of, but Lufthansa definitely never ordered any additional 747-8, and never any 747-8 to be delivered by 2025. Lufthansa's only 747-8 order was placed in December 2006, with 20 firm orders plus 20 options. They ended up not taking one of those firm orders and took none of the options, leaving them with 19. As you hopefully know, 747 production ended in 2022.
@TonyM132 Жыл бұрын
Eight has been the number of 747-400 in Lufthansa's fleet since April 2020, and they've announced plans to have all 8 retired by 2025 (although this seems unlikely now due to continued delays of the 777-9, Lufthansa's 744 replacement). Do you think that 8 and 2025 are what you confused for new 747 orders?
@irish00011 Жыл бұрын
@@TonyM132 This was 8 months ago. Since then, Boeing has closed up shop on their assembly for any more orders, and surely some orders have been canceled. Those aircraft that were finished sufficiently to become airworthy either shall be completed and placed in storage out in the desert or continue to remain at the facility at Renton, Washington.
@TonyM132 Жыл бұрын
@@irish00011 Your last comment is just as much nonsense as your first. Boeing has not "closed up shop on their assembly for any more orders" any time in the last year. 747 orders closed over two years ago with Atlas' order of four 747-8F in January 2021, which was heavily covered by media and announced at the time to be the final order that would ever be placed for 747s. Those were freighters, of course. The final order for any newly-built passenger 747s was placed by Korean ten years ago in 2013. There have not been any 747 orders cancelled in the last few years. The last to be cancelled were by Nippon Cargo in 2017. No 747 was ever built at Renton. Renton has only produced narrow body aircraft. Everett, WA was the assembly site for 747.

Being a crew is somewhat dangerous and also NOT very glamourous at times.
@greatflyer_aviation2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, crew are exposed to the unpredictability of passengers who can sometimes be intoxicated or simply unruly. They are also exposed to higher levels of radiation, whereas flight crew who have to walk around the aircraft are exposed to toxic fumes and the threat of jetblast and collision with ground vehicles.

They have bedding and pillows for long haul sectors. Some airlines provide sleepwear for crew
@stephenbanks59522 ай бұрын
@@Thepastwasexciting I am not convinced. Sometimes planes have a very quick turnaround and are not cleaned properly. Ate you telling me that before every flight there is someone that goes yo the crew rest room and changes every bunk with fresh bedding? I find that hard to believe.
@juliogonzo2718Ай бұрын
@stephenbanks5952 I'm not a flight crew member but did work at a camp job where I had sleeping quarters, I'm assuming they just take the bedding out at the end of the flight themselves and replace it themselves with bedding that is stocked in the crew rest area.
