Boeing 787-9 WINGFLEX during TAKEOFF, TURBULENCE & LANDING

I shot this video on my way back from Europe.
The red wing overlay represents the wing when the aircraft is on the ground and there is no lift on the wing.
As the aircraft gains speed on takeoff, the wings will start to generate lift and will start bending. It is pretty amazing how much they actually bend.

Yup. The wing creates lift until the speedbrakes deploy. When they do, the airfoil of the wing is disrupted and it stops creating lift, hence the sudden drop of them at touchdown

Of course it will because the wings stop creating the lift once you hit the ground. if it didn't drop down i would be scared.

@@Sanyu-Tumusiime actually they are still producing quite a bit of lift. The spoilers interrupt the airflow and stop the lift. Otherwise there would be no traction for braking until it slowed way down

​@@semiprofessional8470 I don't think so. Look at it from a different angle. As soon as it touches down, what happens? The wheels start supporting the load of the plane instead of the wings. Why aren't the wings being pushed up anymore by Newton's third law? It's because they aren't generating lift anymore. Sure, the wings are pushing down a bunch of air, but they aren't generating lift since the plane is on the ground.

@@Sanyu-Tumusiime the lift created by the wing is rather based on its velocity and the air density than being on the ground or in the air. Thats the reason a plane needs to accelerate during takeoff for the wing to gain enough Lift. So on landing the wing still has lift, however its less than during rotation, also because of a lower speed of airflow and lower AoA

Good Job, this effect is known as a Variable camber, which permits the wing with the help of the inboard flaps operate one TEVC (Trailing edge (flap) Variable Camber )function in the aircraft and allows the wing assy change the geometry in flight, during cruise phase.

From my experience it is a much smoother ride then the A321 which I flew for a few years, however I have only been on the 787 for a short time.

I am NOT afraid of flying. Grew up with a dad in the Norwegian Air Force, so I've had quite a few hours in the air. Later in life I got my paraglider license and was an active pilot for 15 years. How ever - in 2018 I flew with the Dreamliner to Doha en route to Seoul, South-Korea. I sat in the EXACTLY same seat as in this video. And I've got to admit; I did NOT enjoy the view of that long and sleek wing. It's the only time in my life where I came in contact with some kind of fear of flying.
