@ImThe1stAvenger11 күн бұрын
@@smoketinytom 787s wings flex a lot more than what we see in that video tho. And we will see how great of an innovation those folding wing tips really are. Moving parts have always been a weak point and will always be.
@smoketinytom11 күн бұрын
@@ImThe1stAvenger On the basis there’s millions of moving parts in each plane and there’s been folding wings on military jets that then throw themselves around the skies putting huge forces on the “weak points”.
@ImThe1stAvenger11 күн бұрын
@smoketinytom the wing tips are probably a part that has to withstand one of the biggest forces of all parts on a plane. So yes it will stay a weak point. You can´t compare fighter jets with a commercial airplane. They are a lot lighter and have way less service hours to go through then a commercial airliner. We will see what happens in the future.

This is palpably exciting. The new replacement for the 747 and 380 is destined to rule the skies as the largest in production commercial airplane for the next 30+ years. It is delayed yes. Thank you covid and 737Max. But a longer developmental period means a better finished product at delivery. China and COMAC understands this. Taking 10 years to deliver a quality product is much better than rushing to market in 6 years an immature product. Still, as a CEO of a large airline, I would wait until line number 250 at least to purchase a new airplane product.

@@craxygaminglegend sure the 777X might have composite materials (idk don’t quote me), but they’ve made the plane longer, wider, bigger wingspan; hence the folding wingtips to help it fit into pre-existing airports, but they do not share the same engine. @smoketinytom11 күн бұрын
@ Liking your own comment, oh do grow up. And with the A380, it demonstrated that Airbus was capable of matching Boeing’s lineup and engineering capabilities and expertise. The market might not have been there for the plane’s launch, but Oil prices have a thing with Airbus… As they were founded during hard times, they survived to prosper afterwards. The NEO programs forced Boeing onto the backfoot and led to the MAX Crashes,
@BayAreaTraveler11 күн бұрын
The 777-9X doesn't really compete with the A350. The A35K competes with 777-300ER while the A359 competes with 787-9 and the older 777-200ER. The MTOW on he 777-9 is considerable higher than the A350's.
@smoketinytom11 күн бұрын
@ And… It’ll compete with A35K as the 777-X is just a longer version of the 90’s design. The fuel burn and efficiency per seat is what airlines want and the heavy plane isn’t the ideal choice.
