These are folding raked wingtips which are only vertical on the ground to make space at space restricted airports. They are NEVER vertical in flight. These are a first for commercial aviation. Typically you only see folding wings in Navy aircraft.

The 777-9 has a range of 8,383 miles which is around the distance to fly from Los Angeles to Dubai. It could technically fly longer but that depends on the load and seating configuration.

It’s a good question. I have followed the journey to certification of the 777x for some time. The next critical step is for the FAA pilots to fly the 777x to verify a range of factors. Perhaps the FAA is dragging the chain so to speak given their own problems with previous certifications.

The 777X is Boeing’s new version of the 777. It’s a passenger plane but it hasn’t been certified by the FAA yet so no airlines fly it yet. Once it’s certified then airlines like Lufthansa, Emirates, and Singapore will fly it on long haul international routes.
