Looking around the cockpit of this historic Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker which first flew in 1944. This aircraft has been preserved at the Colorado Springs Municipal aircraft and has been turned into a restaurant!

If you're ever in California, go to the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, CA. On Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend, they have Open Cockpit Day, and there is a KC-97 that you can walk around inside among almost 70 other exhibits.

Sacrilege! All the instruments are missing from the Flight Engineer's panel (the wall on the right with the table in front of it.. He was the busiest guy ono these aircraft by far!!!!

What happened to the flight engineer panel?

The entire flight engineer's station is missing here. That was the most important crew member on these airplanes.

My nest visit to Colorado I shall make this my FIRST place to eat! I want to see the cockpit. (I am assuming this is still in business considering this ongoing coronavirus diasater! Well, this means can't eat there any longer and most likely on static display not being able to board her, or even TOUCH her! I hope this one museum in Wyoming plans to renovate and restore her to air worthy condition and offer flights to the public! I don't like just pearing visually behind ropes or glass and not being able to experience the grandeur of this plane! If I only had the money! I would pay for restoration myself and get her air worthy again and get it out an a local airport and offer flights to aviation enthusiasts and the general public at large! If not WHAT A WASTE rotting away behind glass or some fence or roped off! This is my biggest reason I don't like the Smithsonian Museum in WDC, NO hads on, and NO airtworthy aircraft to fly in for the general public! Can't even board her and see as well as experience the inside - let alone even make tactile contact with these beautiful gems! I feel sorry for the blind who cannot appreciate these vintage aircraft. In my home ciountry in Dübendorf near Zürich, there are FOUR Ju-5-3m planes )out of only 6 airworthy ones in the world) beautifully restored still offering flights for the public with the original BMW radial engines! I have yet to fly in one of these. I only hope this coronavirus mess shan't destroy that opportunity! That would be SHAMEFUL!

looks like the cockpit has the modern service electrical panel for the restaurant looks like a dedicated 120/240 volt panel if its bigger it could be 3 phase they wired in. at least the plane still has the P&W R-4360 Wasp Major radial engines. as the plane closely relates to the Bowing B-29/B-50 Superfortress. and the cargo planes or the guppys with the enlarged top of the fuselage. as they were heavilly used in the Apollo Space Program carying parts of the Saturn V Rocket then. it also shares the Stratocruiser airliner the earlier ones powered by the early model Wright R-3350 engines as in the B-29 later all were powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major engines.

The McMinnville C-97 went from the restaurant under its own power to Wyoming and finally to the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum for display.

Better than having them scrapped so their metal can be sold. ;)
