As a hunting guide that guides all that mule deer and elk in West Texas where the average shot is much much further than most of our clients have ever shot before, I can tell you it makes me very happy when a client brings one of these death grip setups. I've seen better tripods but for $300, these things are worth every penny.

Which ones do you like more?
@SitNSpinRecords2 жыл бұрын
He’s probably talking about those custom tripods for those people that spend 50k on one hunting trip. You can get metal ones for around $150 on sale. The carbon fiber ones are only 1 lb lighter. Not much difference in a 7lb vs. 8lb tripod other than $100
@brandtbuchanan55262 жыл бұрын
All Ive used is the carbon model but extra weight is never a bad thing when it comes to a shooting platform! Of course, You can order just the clamp-style head and mount on just about any tripod but those big fat legs and solid mounting base (no vertical columns) are a must. Nowadays, I use Sirui legs w/ half bowl and arca swiss QR plate. Good bang for your buck, and I switch from my video head &spotter to my rifle is ~2sec flat.

Only major draw back I have is the lack of a third axis. To level your cross hairs you must level the legs. Not an easy feet on the run.

I have put this tripod threw absolute hell and I mean HELLL!! This thing is legit as it gets. I’ve had 15+ hogs laying over the top of this thing countless amounts of times! A quick spray off and she’s ready to go again! I will say the after a certain amount of time i have found it necessary to soak it in the sink with soap and water for an hour or too and let it dry! That’s only if you put it threw what I have! Also I only have soaked it when it gets dirt in the rotating head. It’s very much legit tho! Worth every penny

I shoot a Christiansen Arms Traverse and I use the death grip. The death grip has held my rifle for 5 days now, and it hasn’t slipped a millimeter. I chose the carbon fiber over the aluminum, not because it’s lighter. It will be more damage resistant to such things as denting the legs. The weight might be an issue for some, but for great deal of people out hunting, they will sacrifice the extra weight for a rock steady rest. I use a ground blind extensively, or small little walks to spot and stock, I’ll set up my death grip, anchor the rifle, pick up my binoculars, the spotting scope and get to work looking for my buck. Just like anything else related to shooting or hunting, practice setting it up and to get comfortable with it’s adjustments…. Don’t wait until the day you hunt because you’re gonna regret it.
@z06ix3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean, would the heavier model be more stable than the carbon fiber? or vice versa?.... Thanks....
@michaelbosisto62593 жыл бұрын
@@z06ix the aluminum dents, and when you dent the aluminum legs, they do not telescope well or not at all. You will not have that issue with the carbon fiber. I do not have both types, just the carbon, so I’m not sure which material is more stable, although I know carbon to be more rigid.

I really like the versatility of the Death Grip. It will accept any weapon with out the need for a pic rail or m-loc attachment just set it in the clamp and secure your ready to go. Want to change weapons change them no need for special tools or attachment's. Its is very sturdy and comes in black camo or carbon fiber the price goes up from black . I really liked the reviews for the Death Grip so I bought one to try out. Wow both my wife and I love it we can quickly switch weapons my AR-10 to her KRX 12 gauge shotgun. The height adjustments should be made with the weapon off the tripod however though. My call is for your money you really can't go wrong with the BOG death grip. I am not saying that really more expensive tripods might be better suited for your needs like match grade shooting from a tripod?
@toothfairy7884943 жыл бұрын
The only place to clamp an FX is the bottle and because of the shape of it it rises out of the clamp. I had to make an attachment so I could attach the gun by the picatinney rail.

Thanks. Great review. I just got mine today and the platform does not pan in a circular way. It moves about 10 degrees and no more. I’m going to call BOG tomorrow and see if there’s something I’m not doing correctly. I’ve loosened the clamp screw. I’ve even taken it off. There must be something down inside the neck. I saw yours turn 180 degrees and back again.

A tripod is probably your best bet when shooting for any purpose from a static position. You may run into an issue zeroing a canted/offset dot though, so some sand bags to stabilize your rifle while it's canted could prove handy.
