Bogen 3046 tripod w/ 3047 tripod head review

Fantastic, perfect review. Thanks so much for shooting in HD. I'm glad you got it folded up for us, because I needed to see the folded size. This tripod is WAY bigger than I expected it to be. Not portable enough for my use unfortunately, though it looks like a rock solid beast.

I bought that combo new in 1984. So, it's 38-40 years old. I still have it. Thé bubble level on the base, above the leg joints, is cracked. It's a built very well otherwise. They must have updated it because mine has single, thick tubes instead of the 2 smaller tubes on each leg.

I have a 3047 head and I like to use it turned the opposite way that you do, so that the handle doesn't hit me in the throat as I look through the viewfinder. Also, this way, I can see both bubble levels without walking around in front of the tripod.

FWIW: I just purchased a used 3-46 tripod and I do not have a problem collapsing the legs like you do. I think that is a problem with your particular unit. I paid $70 for it and so far I'm happy with my purchase.

If you polish the center pole with metal polish it will be easy to collapse. I found it to be very sturdy and can support a lot of weight.

I bought a use one of these and do not have that problem with the legs. The owner before me removed the plastic cap at the bottom of the riser. Maybe that cap is what is causing your legs to stick.

Never use oil on tripods. In the winter the oil will solidify, in the summer it will leak everywhere. Use silicone dry lubricant instead.

@etentertainment They looked like that when I got it. Maybe the previous owner smashed it with something to get the legs to close.

I just got a used 3046 with a 136 head, for $50, and those bottom bars aren't bent at all. The guy said he hasn't touched it since he did wedding videography 10 years ago, and it was worth $400 then. How much was yours for?

That is a very good, quality Tripod, I"m guessing that since this Video is eight years old, that you probably don't have the Tripod anymore. I have a 3046 Tripod with a 3047 Top, Ive had it for 20 years, it opens, closes and extends fine, its never gotten stuck. I like my Tripod, no plans to replace it with another one, I may buy a smaller Tripod that would be lighter and smaller, that would fit inside of a back pack, bt theres no plans to do that, I'm ok with carrying my Bogen around.

Savage, you are destroying a good piece of equipment by not using your head and thinking, rather than forcing it with your roller skateboard. Terrible video. There is a solution that smart people would find to solve that small problem.

Wow, poor tripod! I've had this tripod for years and I only recently noticed that the legs come out one more section for EVEN HIGHER reach!
