@Bartleby well, it is true, alot of podcasts do the same thing, its one of those greed things you see from content people in their early days when they get a bit obssessed with the numbers and dont yet realise its a bad long term strategy

The Compound And Friends is a podcast. Some people have their podcast on KZbin, audio only without video production, some people do great video editing teaser of a podcast, which targets an audience that will listen, and use the teaser to give you a highlight of what you would experience if you listen. If the content creators move away from focusing on what they are discussing, to what they are discussing and how they look, it changes the offer we get, and I like the podcast from a “learning” perspective

Yes, josh! He's talking about--and actually practicing--helping people learn and become better investors. big firms lie about this (or don't try very hard, i work for one of them, education is more just there to prevent us getting sued, but we do not seem to care about actual investor returns). Next account i open is on betterment

That was a GREAT show guys. Thank you. BTW I believe behaviors are the same but the tools of the game have changed and will continue to change as we go forward depending on the situation. Sold out 100percent on the 2nd day of the correction in March 2020 and bought 1 day after the bounce into VFIAX and BRKB. Sold BRKB at 293$ later. Looking to take some profit out of VFIAX shortly. Just saying not bragging. I was fortunate to a degree. Thanks again and will be watching later.

If my house doubles in value, I can't do much with that. Most people don't take out more debt on that rise. Most people won't leave their job to move to Ben Carlson's farm town and pocket the difference. So household net worth going up based on real estate has zero tangible impact for most people working a 9 to 5 outside of higher yearly home taxes.

I think the key word here is "tangible". The wealth effect of a rising home value leading to consumer spending is more of an intangible.

Betterment's solution to getting clients to not sell out is ONLY because the market went down and "V" bottomed right back up in a short period of time. Had the market gone down for 2 years, initially saying you will pay this much in taxes would work in getting them to not sell. Eventually, their system would say you don't have to pay any taxes if you sell because the stocks crashed below the clients buy price. At that point the client would be down another 20% to 50% from when they wanted to sell and will then sell.

How much money in cash did Michael have? If you have a 4-6 month emergency fund in cash "rate less than inflation" don't matter. What matters is having access to the money for the emergency.

LOL. Your guest (name?) says incredulously, Wait, Ben is a believer??? Derp. Like it's some kind of heresy. Haha.. All Ben says is that the economy is doing okay so maybe the Fed is smarter than everyone realizes, but Ben doesn't need me to defend him. Powell didn't decide to run up the deficit with tax cuts and ignore covid.

The asset allocation debate is interesting. In my opinion I wouldn't even consider bonds if you've accumulated millions in stocks. Even if the market crashes and you're living off stocks, the dividends alone at that point should cover your cost of living for most people. In that scenario you wouldn't care so much about the risk of bear markets durring retirement because you would never have to sell any shares.
