Painting from photos has a lot of disadvantages, but also many good benefits! One of them is that you can always come back to the pictures that inspire you to work with them again...I thought, time ago that pastel does not give me enough darkness to make this kind of work, so I painted this portrait in Oil by then. But time has passed and I had the desire to paint this man again but in Pastel.
This is a big size Pastel portrait. It was made in one day work. I didn't paint a background. Just paid attention to the figure. The video is a little longer than usual but I did not know where to cut...
Hope you enjoy!

Ive been studying portraiture for about a year now, mostly charcoal and chalk. Im working on moving to oils, but pastel has always fascinated me, even as a child.Watching your work is spell binding. Ive learned so much from watching you, and others like julio puentes. Thank you so much for sharing, and your technique fascinating to watch and your quality and eye for color, light and shadow is astounding.

Thank you so much JohaunZ, I really appreciate. it is so difficult to punt into words what I do step by step. But I believe I have achieved some way to explain it in two posts I have on my blog. Hope you will find some interesting tips there, following the link below; www.portraitonpastel.com/en/blog.htm Thank you again for following... Bogra

The board next to your drawing is it used to make a finer edge on the pastel or check for the correct color to use, or is it both, change the edge and make sure you’re using the correct color? I really like watching your work. Please continue to upload more videos when you have time. ♥️

Do you prefer working from photos? I do. Peace to create instead of the pressure to entertain the sitter. That's how I feel. Is it the same for you too? Love your style Graciela and will be investing in some Unison soft pastels this week after studying your work for a few more hours. Oils are great but the immediacy of pastels appeals greatly. Any tips on sealing and framing please?
@bograart
@bograart 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Dai, Thank you for your comments, I like both ways of working. From photos and life portrait...Of course they are different ways of working. I personnaly don´t feel it as entertaining the sitter but there is a kind of pressure about not failing or doing a good work. And there is also the time factor. On the other side it is not the same to paint a children than an adult. The adult can remain sit for longer time. Unison are good Pastels. About sealing I would recommend you to spray the work (with professional spray but not too much) at the end and frame with glass, frame and mat. Best, Bogra
