The airfield they used to construct a wembley stadium for the live aid scenes is next to where I go for PE with school, and so for weeks we heard them singing the same couple of songs again and again and again, except we didn't know they were filming the movie, so we just thought there was some odd queen tribute concert that lasted for like 3 weeks lol

I'm guessing the reason why they didn't show We Will Rock You at Live Aid is because they've already played the song in the middle of the movie at a "concert". It would be kind of overdone if they did it in Live Aid, so they kept that out of the movie, but it will be on the extended cut.

@@zoeaargh true, he was, and that's why they only barely covered the various parts of his private life instead of delving deep into it and getting all detailed and gritty and salacious which is what Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to do with the character and is also what a lot of the film's critics were expecting to see. I was very happy to see that they didn't do that and I'm glad Sacha left the project and we didn't get the film he wanted. The critics can just go to hell, so many of them crying about how his sexuality and private life was "glossed over" which is bullshit. it was carefully and sensitively treated so as to talk about it without exposing him. I think he would have been ok with it.

Freddie Mercury, he was a genius, a huge talent. In addition, the, - sensual charismatic is a fantastic phenomenon. He was a professional in every way. In his work, he is thorough, determined, committed and extremely humble to the music and the ensemble. In intimate privacy. He never liked being researched in private. He never declared his gender identity or the illness that occurred. Freddie was an intricate, complex individual. He is an incredibly humble but brave and strong man. Very talented! It was much more than a rock star. It is very unfortunate that the media and the film are chasing a sensation and misinterpreting him through negligence. This very special great man, talent!

i am extremely proud to say i worked as an extra on this movie !! , the specific scenes i did were the Smile College Gig at the start of the movie where i saw Ben and Gwilym up on the stage performing "Doing Alright" and the other scene was in the corridor where Freddie met Mary Austin for the first time ! , it was a truly amazing experience ! Shame i never got to see Joe Mazzello though , i guess you could say in an alternate universe i went to college with Freddie Mercury !!

The ONLY gripe that I really had with this movie is that they had Freddie come out to the guys at the "rehearsal" for Live Aid, about that he had AIDS. The guys truly didn't know for sure until the day before he died. I'm guessing they did that to add to the drama of the movie. There are some slight inaccuracies, but it's a biopic. It was still great!

Freddie announced it to the public 24 hours before he died. But his band members and a few other knew years earlier. It would have been obvious to those he worked with as his health deteriorated from 1987 when he was diagnosed. But yes the movie is inaccurate when showing that he was diagnosed before live aid

No, the band knew for ages. He was having extensive treatments like radiation therapy and a whole cocktail of drugs. Brain May tells an anecdote of Mercury showing his mostly amputated foot at a dinner. Hardly a secret.

I watched an interview, they did that because they didn’t want the movie to end sad, with him telling them that he had aids.

the reason they did that was twofold, they wanted to end the film with Live Aid as the climax, to end the film on a high note rather than have the ending be about his deterioration from the disease. However, they absolutely knew they could not leave out his diagnosis either so they moved his diagnosis to before Live Aid so they could cover it while still ending the film with Live Aid. the conversation that happened in the film happened in real life several months before he died from what i recall but the guys definitely knew something was terribly wrong for quite a while before that.
