The Freddie Mercury Biopic, Oscar nominated Bohemian Rhapsody, charts the rise to rock stardom of Queen and its mercurial frontman - probably the greatest in the world. With Mr Robot’s Rami Malek impressing band members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon and director Dexter Fletcher (who replaced original director Bryan Singer after various allegations came out), this film is the biggest film musical event of the year. The talk about the fluidity of relationships and sexuality didn't define Freddie and his close friends. The cast also talk about having the band members of Queen on set and give their blessing to the film and their performances. They also talk about their favourite Queen songs, and the songs that surprised them. They also talk about the sudden change of director and how the controversial decision affected the film.
Alongside Malek, the film stars Lucy Boynton, Joseph Mazzello, Mike Myers, Ben Hardy, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech, Aaron McCusker, Jess Radomska and Gwilym Lee. It is directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Anthony McCarten.
PLOT:
Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.
Stefan Pape conducted these interviews.
