His portrayal of Brian May was awesome. He nailed his body movements and speaking to a tee. I thought I was watching a young Brian May on screen. His acting complemented Rami Malek's very well. And the other two did great portrayals of both Deacon and Taylor too. You saw the internal tension between Taylor and Mercury. It was known that Roger Taylor was always screwing around on his wife while on the road. Also, Taylor was very outspoken in the band and he and Freddie did clash a lot. But that was part of the magic they had. At the end of the day they were friends and wanted to make the best music they could.

Totally agree. Also, who is to say that anybody knows exactly what went on in Freddie's life behind closed doors in the bars and at home. Practically all of it what the public think they know is just hear-say. So what would be shown? What would have been the truth, what fiction? I also feel that some stories were somewhat exagerated. Also, this would have been a disservice to Freddie. He himself never really liked to talk too much about his private life to interviewers and was a very private person. He loved to talk about his music, tho - and the movie respected that. Keep in mind, the living band members were listed as executive producers and even Mary Austin approved of the movie before it was released. His friends wouldn't have produced something to make their friend look awful but to showcase what was so important to him, his music and to show the great person he was. Love them for that.
@gracecoleiro22015 жыл бұрын
And also it wasn’t intended to be all revolving around Freddie Mercury, it was also about Queen so delving into those dense topics about Freddie’s sexuality and detailed personal life would be too far away from the intentions of the film. We never know, there might end up being a film JUST about Freddie Mercury and his life one day but that’s not what Bohemian Rhapsody was supposed to be
@Lotteeeeh5 жыл бұрын
What the critics are saying is a fine example of them not getting artistic cinema. They just want big Hollywood drama and don’t understand when that drama is done in a more subtle way, like the interviewer says. In my theatre course my teachers always used to say: it is far more exhilarating to watch people almost kiss/fight/cry, than to just see them do it. The first one brings so much more tension to the performance, it keeps you to the edge of your seat. And I think that’s the case with the movie as well. The hinting and artistic teasing make it far more interesting to watch then see the band doing five rows of blow!

In all fairness to Sasha though, in the original script they did want to shy away from the not so legal things the band did. And they also wanted to kill off Freddie halfway though the movie, which for a movie that was meant to be about Freddie Mercury isn't exactly a smart marketing idea. I by no means condone making a movie all about the band's sins without talking about their virtues, but I also disagree with trying to sweep what they did under the rug, because that means you only encounter half of the characters. To quote Sirius Black " the world isn't split into light and feathered. There is both good and bad inside all of us." (Probably misquoted it, but you get the gist.)

Freddie absolutely avoided discussing politics. They dealt with issues through their music. Their album Innuendo was all about the gossip going around about Bryan’s affair and Freddie’s illness. I think if Freddie were here he would be writing some amazing music to help us all escape from the chaos that’s going on in this world. I think that’s one big reason we have all looked so forward to the movie. It’s an escape for us all and an opportunity to relive a very magical time in Rock and Roll history. I was barely a teen in 85 but the significance of Live Aid wasn’t lost on me. Queen stole the show and we will never see the likes of Live Aid, Queen and especially Freddie Mercury again.

I've noticed in a few interviews, not only focusing on this one, that when there are unsophisticated questions dished out, Rami truly does his best to shift them because he's yearning to talk passionately about this massive project they spent months on, he hasn't had the chance to until this press tour and he's receiving this endless string of (almost) irrelevant questions. Stephanie Wood that’s so true watching old videos of him or listening to old interviews he didn’t have a filter switch! Could you imagine him now in this day and age with all the social media accounts and the stuff he would post on line? He’d shut Trump up with one comment I think!?! Trump says things for shock value to keep his name in the papers, Freddie just said what was in his head at that second and said it without filtering himself or thinking about “oh I shouldn’t have said that!” He said what he thought and did what he pleased and that’s what I loved about him, you couldn’t put him in one box or under one label he was just himself and proud of it! X

River-Phoenix Luna Pavier Freddie and Queen didn’t talk politics. I doubt he would have had anything to say about our President. Don’t use his memory to bash the President.
@river-phoenixlunapavier26415 жыл бұрын
David Baker who said anything about “politics”? I didn’t! I was stating a fact about your precious racist, bigoted President! We are talking about “speaking minds” not “politics” you brought “politics” into a conversation that wasn’t about said subject no one else did!!!!
@amandadelatorre83715 жыл бұрын
I think that, and also the huge need for labels that people have nowadays. Not only did Freddie hate them but he saw how terribly unnecessary they were. Like who cares what your sexuality is just go with it

3:08 - YES! My only problem with this film is it was far too short. It was trying to cover way too much in under 2 hours and this made it feel very rushed and like it didn't explore various major character relationships and developments properly before hurtling onto the next scenes. This movie should have been at least 2h10 to 2h15.. the lack of smoking was kind of noticeable too actually, Freddie was constantly chain-smoking and the rest of the band smoked a lot too. While I understand not dwelling on sex and drugs much, I don't see why they wanted to make this for kids. this movie should be a 15.

I haven't seen the film yet but I did read that it was about 2 hours and 14 minutes. Of course, that's credits included.

I feel that Rami Malek is the person farthest away from his character (both in looks and mannerism), and that is why I was so amazed by how uncanny to Freddie Mercury (in the way he spoke, moved around and performed) he was in the movie! Amazing performance from all of them.

@@franknstein5376 - Freddie looked extremely exotic. Rami not as much. John and Brian - perfect.

The critics are deeply wrong. This movie was a sensitive, intelligent, loving & authentic story. We don't need to be hit over the head to know the boys also experienced darkness. Rami's words about Freddie & Queen are beautiful.

Bohemian Rhapsody came out in my city on November 2, 2018. I saw the very first showing on Friday at my closest theatre. I was in awe! This movie will have you crying, laughing, and celebrating all of the struggles, and successes of Freddie, Brian, Roger and John and Mary! Rami Malek became Freddie Mercury! I couldn't take my eyes off him. The other 3 actors also looked like the real band members! Very well done! Excellent! Rami deserves an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie and the others as supporting actors. Movie of the year, Bohemian Rhapsody, we will rock you, we are the champions, Somebody to Love topping music charts once again! I wonder where Freddie's last boyfriend Jim, is today?

What a well-rounded, wholesome interview! Both the interviewer and the actors/Rami, discussing questions and answers in such a nice and classy way. Nothing about Freddie's sexuality or debaucherous lifestyle mentioned, yet they're implied in a respectful manner and steered in to bigger problems with the world. The movie's not a documentary, there're tons of that already. This movie is a 'show', a 2h concert on its own, celebrating Queen's legacy and ideology. And a beautiful piece of art!

I was completely blown away by this movie. It was acted out so well. Crazy that during the 80s I wasn't a huge fan of Queen. But now, after learning more about the group, especially the portrayal of Freddie Mercury, I have a greater appreciation. Kudos to Rami Malek. You did a really spectacular job. The casting in this movie is superb. It is a must see movie.

Excellent commentary both in the video and also in the comments section. I just wanted to add that here it is confirmed that they shot the entire Live Aid concert, which means the extended cut might actually include the entire concert (rather than the parts we just saw in the final cut). I'm looking forward to owning a copy of this masterpiece of a film.

I was looking forward to see this movie for a long time, and finally got to do it this week. Since I've been trying to study scriptwriting and storytelling recently, I started off noticing how this does not align. Every film needs a struggle, right? Anyway, a couple minutes in, that went out of the window. This isn't sharing a story arc with a structure, this is letting us a little into the lives of those we have adored since childhood. It's an ode to a life lost, and a guilty pleasure to indulge in fantastic music, with fantastic people, and fantastic images, and a truckload of sentiment. I don't care if the story holds up to structure standards. The set and costume design was on point. The performances were phenomenal. The emotional charge to the film was through the roof. I loved it, and would watch again. I took my mom, who likes biographies, and I might just go pay two tickets again to take my dad, who loves Queen. It's him who I've caught the passion from. On another note, it's awe inspiring how a role can transform a person. Rami Malek in pre-Bo Rap interviews is super shy and awkward. Rami after that, more visible in this interview than others I have seen, is confident, assertive, and at ease. It's like he's taken those aspects of Freddie that could help him, and adopted them. Freddie was shy, but had the biggest persona. You can see this in Rami in interviews. Now he's charming, he flirts, he's assertive, and with 'the band' he's more at ease and relaxed than I have ever seen him. I love his clapback at critics here, and just taking the word, because he has something to say, even though he wasn't asked. Rock on!
