Awesome! To answer your question @5:22 - The way to top that is to play Pink Floyd's "Celestial Voices" on it. It definitely belongs in a church. There is b&w video of the late great Rick Wright playing it on a pipe organ somewhere long ago, but clearly not of this magnitude. Their performance of it at Pompeii in '71 is probably one of their best. Thank you.

Having that input port and using a few relays you could have some real fun with pranks of an organ that plays itself at night but only when the lights are out. A simple light sensor and a radar board and you can know when there is movement or lights to turn everything off and go back into sleep mode.

Many organs have digitized consoles nowadays. The onboard computer is usually just used to record the console for playback. They didn't even know there was a MIDI port built in. They had to call the manufacturer to figure out how to even plug it in. This is a matter of no one ever connecting the dots. I'm so going to figure out how to do this with our 1927 Wurlitzer!

That MIDI file was absolute rubbish but Rob's enthusiasm more than makes up for it.
@ionator2000ist4 жыл бұрын
I dont think it was the midi file to be honest. Its probably limitations of the organ itself. It essentially has a spool time for the each of the notes since it relies on wind and not necessarily percussive strikes.
@kc9scott4 жыл бұрын
I agree with Rich. Although a pipe organ has delay, it's about the same for each and every note. The most obvious problem with the MIDI file was that successive repeated notes all got melded together into one. I wonder if perhaps it was recorded on a piano-like keyboard while using a sustain pedal, and then the organ's firmware responded to the sustain-pedal messages by erasing all of the gaps between the repeated notes.
It sounds to me as though the MIDI was only the accompaniment without the lead. There were hints of the lead tune at points but I think the main lead wasn't there at all and was never intended to be. It was probably intended to be used in a situation where a person was going to perform the lead while accompanied by a MIDI driven instrument.

Cant there be concerts with that? Honestly. This is defenetly a great discovery already and it already sounds great. But imagine experienced musicians/organists composing music in midi to utilize the ability of playing all the keyboards simultaniously if need be while actually having the ability to engage certain pipes from the different divisions live according to the music that is being played right now. Like in this song possibly having the opportunity to seperate the guitar and vocal melodies a bit more from the rest of the music and so on. It just looks like the full potential of this instrument has never been unlocked, since obviously a single organist can not play 7 keyboards simultaniously while also engaging and stopping certain pipes while playing. Would be damn awesome to have great musicians actually writing music or arranging existing music specificly for that instrument utilizing all the flexibility it provides
@zeebline14 жыл бұрын
I have been wanting to see this combination of musical genres combined for over 20 Years. I have played the pipe organ and am also a metal head. I have wanted to see the prophet song by Queen and war pigs done on a large instrument. You guys today fantastic job with Bohemian Rhapsody the only thing and might recommend is during the past heavy part is putting Freddy's voice on a separate organ division with a louder reed so it can stand out. But I really hope more people watched this and realize That the pipe organ has so many capabilities. And probably in Electronic form (Allen, Rodgers, midi etc) I would like to see more synthesis Of hard rock or metal with the sound of a pipe organ. I think it could be done.

I saw your other extended video too. I don't think your MIDI tracks are quite right for optimal control but this was an amazing experiment. I hope you are working on a way to integrate the stop selection along with the note playing. I think it ought to be possible and I would be curious to learn more. I have access to a 1927 Wurlitzer Theatre organ with a digitized console in a similar setup. I'm going to see if there is a MIDI input port. It has the same computer in the console so i'm sure it does. It would be great to create MIDI files of music to go with films.
