A small flock of Bohemian Waxwing Bombycilla garrulus is illustrated visiting Balham, South West London during early January 2024. Shot over two days, one sunny, and the other not (the final clip, in which these beautiful, irruptive, winter visitors may be heard calling softly to one another). Several still photographs have been included, but the birds were not filmed feeding on this occasion. They had been present for almost a fortnight, and one that had been blighted by an almost immovable blanket of cloud! Nevertheless, their protracted stay had presented many delighted birdwatchers and residents with an opportunity to observe their behaviour at close range. The flock size had fluctuated between 12 and 14 birds, and they had been attracted by two ornamental Rowan Sorbus vilmorinii trees heavily laden with berries.
