Yes and no. A full lemming train To one point is the definition of concentration of firepower, if you have a group that knows how to mass that firepower against one ship at a time. Crush that point and everyone move to the next point, and you win that way.

@@simonreij6668 arguably his return from the A cap was the factor that stopped the enemy from keep going south from C cap for a while until everybody died there except for him. He did the smart thing and turned around to help the team, the problem was their teammates were absolute awful players. I mean, that dutch cruiser dying in the first 3 min broadsiding the enemy is all you need to see. If he had 3 or 4 competent teammates he could easily won the match, the enemy were trash too.

I've seen this sort of thing before with the 4 to 1 odds. The team gets some unlucky volleys, close to no damage, switches targets. Rinse. Repeat. They wind up doing a bit to everyone and then get clapped one by one until they all die. Always focus fire, even when you have a crap volley and your angle sucks. There's something about being constantly hammered that unhinges people, even if they aren't taking huge chunks of damage, and they start acting squirrelly.

The Kiev was spotted for about 5 or 6 minutes at the start of the battle. I can imagine the enitre game going completely the other way if he was taken out and nobody including the star of todays show seemed to give a shit. Too interested in holding fire until a cruiser comes past broadside.

@@mkang8782 Even at longer range if you can shoot at a DD you should, as that might be your only chance and even an over pen from 457mm Superheavy AP hurts. For some reference 1 over pen from Ohio would deal roughly 9% of a Kiev's HP. If he lucked into a full pen it would have been roughly 32% of the Kiev's hp. Pair that with your payout is based on the % of your targets HP you did not your raw damage and that makes DDs a valuable target for anything that can shoot them.

This match should be held up as a prime example of "Failing to Tier X". Every player on Leprechaun's team, with maybe the exception of the Stalingrad, should be black listed and sent back to Tier 1. Kudos to Leprechaun for doing as much as he did, even the enemy Yamato stated that his team should be complimenting him.

He definitely threw at the end. Maybe he'd given up at that point, but he needed to push B even if it meant pushing into a cross fire with the Yamato. Killing the Montana earlier might have kept the Minnesota alive, he would have stalled the cap, been in better position to kill the low health Yamato and Sherman, and that would have bought some time to push the carrier. Of course maybe the Sherman just runs, Yamato kites out, and he can't catch the carrier so they still lose, but the fact he didn't even try almost guaranteed the loss. Going A achieved absolutely nothing except mitigating some damage from the Montana....but he had the health to spare. Still it was a good game overall and I can't say I blame him given how bad the team was. *edit I just realized the Montana also killed their carrier. If he had pushed B and the carrier stayed alive, then they would have had a very good chance of killing the Yamato and Sherman and probably won.

Just an FYI Ohio is not a steel ship, can purchase from research bureau in Armory for 62,000 Research points. Also the "actually Jingles" moment, Ohio has the same secondaries as Massachusetts, with mildly shorter range.

By himself, Leprechaun killed 8 of the 9 enemy ships that died in the entire match. His 11 teammates could only manage one kill between them. Some days you literally cannot carry hard enough.

This battle shows the power of DDs honestly, props to the red teams Kiev who gave spotting and torp support to the red team at A, as opposed to the blue teams Ragnar who decided even though hes in one of the best gunboat DDs, with a radar that basically mitigates the spotting advantage the Kiev has, he was going to run and hide and not do anything productive the entire battle. Who wants to bet it was because there was a CV on the other team? Seeing a CV seems to make most DD players brains turn off and they go into hiding, even though CVs are not really a threat to DDs anymore. Even Malta isn't really a big threat, she only has her rockets for reliable damage. I can't really get behind everyone giving the Shimanto shit, that light cruiser has less DPM than the Ragnar. No joke, Ragnar has more DPM stock than Shimanto has on 50% adrenaline rush. All things considered that Shimanto did well to stay alive, and likely did okay damage given his DPM. That ship really isn't suited for anything, but it really isn't suited for pushing. At the end of the day the team with the better DDs wins, and the team that lemming trains also loses. This battle was over the moment they all went A, and just gave up B/C. There was a brief moment of hope if they could have smashed through A and turned up to B, but they still would have been fighting an uphill battle as there really isn't much usable island cover from A to B, but there is a lot of useable island cover defending B from A. Same can be said the other way for this map as well, that big open stretch of water between A and B makes it really hard to advance on the caps. It's one of the things I dislike the most about Wargaming moving the spawns, a lot of maps the middle spawn being farther away from the flanks makes those players want to bunch up, leading to cases where you have say 4 of the 5 middle spawn going to one flank and a single ship going to the other, even though it should be 3 to one and 2 to the other based on you know, where you spawn and how many ships are already on the flank. This map adds to the bad spawns by having everyone spawn slightly more south, leading to the center spawn being closer to A than C, but still ideally Captain Leprechaun, the Shimanto and the Minnesota should have gone C, Stalin and Schlieffen go A, and finally CV stay at spawn until a flank is on the verge of winning then move that direction preferably C but if that flank falls better to have the CV alive and close to friends, putting more ships at C because that cap and flank is FAR more valuable than the A flank, because as mentioned attacking into B from A is hard, but added to this, attacking into B from C is rather easy. Once you have B/C you don't really have to do anything, you've won if the other team doesn't attack into you, so you just have to sit tight and wait for the reds to sail into the large bit of open water between A and B and kill them as they approach. End of the day though this battle was lost to a lack of spotting and DD support. Imagine that DDs play a larger role in a team winning than the CV, and you can tell just by looking at the team results. Both CVs were in the exact same position on each team, while the blue teams DDs were bottom and 3rd from the bottom, the red teams DDs were 2nd and 3rd from the top. In other words both CVs had the exact same impact on the battle, and the red teams DDs actually supported their team, and the blue teams DDs ether died(and I can't hold that against the Aki he was kind of just fucked) or did basically nothing.

Really good analysis! I agree. I like playing DD’s and would rather die in the first 5 minutes than do nothing the whole game. Of course staying alive is the best even in a defeat as long as you helped your team. I always want to win but I’m not the best player. I sometimes rush in to fast to cap. Learning to scout more and spot. DD’s should always make sure they are supported well. And using the mini map.
