The biggest factor is usually the capstan belt for W&F. This is not really a high spec machine to begin with. Around 0.2 percent RMS weighted is probably not too far out of spec anyway.

I agree. Its not a high spec machine but I'd like to get the best out of it as possible. Currently the w/f is just too high to use. I hate how on the 90's models the flywheel weighs nothing. I have some 70's and 80's units where the damn flywheel weighs more than the huge transformer, those decks have VERY little w/f.

Your main belt is bad or wrong size... pinch roller is just details in w/f. You need the right belt to get you under 0.1% first 👍

Hi all, what I’ve been using is acetone and rub the rollers and belts and in most cases they recover elasticity and grip. Of course the best is to replace them. Athan are very special yet expensive rollers mainly used on expensive decks like Nakamichi. I don’t think it worth that much. Those from China aren’t bad stuff and a lot cheaper than Athans. Try out acetone first, if the belts are in pretty bad shape all stiff you may want to replace them. Good luck!

Check XrayTonyB"'s channel. He has some roller suppliers that he likes. Also, some "rubbery" substances can be swelled with liquid chemicals. The trick would be to identify the "rubber," so that you would know what chemical is needed. As an example, IIRC, silicone caulk can be swelled with acetone. HTH

Try heating them in vegetable oil, they will return to their original shape and softness.

Make sure to dip them in tempura batter first.

Well, maybe don't boil the pinch roller for half an hour. 5-10 min is good enough, you're not trying to cook the roller. But it did bring your speed back up, so it was an improvement in that sense. Your main belt is bad and that's what's causing the majority of the w&f. This deck isn't one worth resurrecting and all this hassle when there are quality working decks out there that need little more than a cleaning. Buy one of those, it lasted 40+ years and restoration will be easy and give you probably a couple more reliable decades. Think early-mid 80s JVC. Sony's didn't stand the test of time as well.
