For practical training purposes this video is fine and in 40 plus years as a boiler operator I have never seen anyone blow down the gage glass and water column differently. However If you check the ASME code for blowing down a boiler gage glass and water column it is a lot more involved.

Video is very informative for the beginners but guys safety first, put on full sleeves shirt please whenever working on or around boilers/pressure vessels or when you are in the power/steam plant and mechanical rooms.
