Yes, sometimes those expansion tanks can be bears to get loose. You will have to explain to me why putting the expansion tank in the vertical position using long nipples takes the stress off the threads, especially when no support was added when you were done. At least the original tank in the horizontal position had support.
@DCHVAC2 жыл бұрын
It has to be mounted vertically for proper operation and longevity. Not bc of the threads
@nightone97202 жыл бұрын
Daniel did the right thing. Never ever mount an expansion tank horizontally. Another reason for this other than proper operation is the expansion tanks top male threads are attached to the tank by the means of a ring adaptor fitting or a weld bead (depending on the manufacturer) and if the tank floods with water it can put a lot of stress on that top point and cause a stress crack. It's the same reason you don't install a water heater horizontally. The center of gravity will stress the pipe connections trying to hold the weight if the tank. I've seen expansion tanks develope stress cracks or even bend the adapter ring down and cause cracks that way because the bottom of the adapter ring will fold into itself. Also a horizontally mounted expansion tanks diaphram will develop uneven wear to the diaphram overtime due to the top portionof the diaphram becoming overly dry in relationship to the bottom half thus causing premature failure of the diaphram.

@@nightone9720 , sorry I can’t agree with you on the orientation change Daniel made with two nipples and no support (it will just add to the stress on the threads when the diaphragm eventually ruptures). Yes, mounting the expansion tank vertical off the air separator is the preferred method but mounting horizontal or vertical upright are optional installations per Watts & Flexcon ( in fact Flexcon stated at one of their trade shows “ they found no premature failures in any of the installed orientations , as long as they were supported correctly”).Amtrol ,does have a problem when installed in alternative orientations (other than vertical). I do see a day when Amtrol will be making the needed corrections in manufacturing to allow for optional orientations.

@@boby115 I agree with having a threaded rod hung from a unistrut and unistrut nut with a threaded rod pipe hangar would be the way to go. It also depends on how far horizontal you go as well. A short distance 6 inches max I wouldn't be too worried about but anything over that I would put a hangar on the horizontal.

Great video I figured out we have I can't spell it well McLean since late seventies in fact there's two of them. Running off of propane. We have a service contract they service it the propane company is the one that provides the service contract the work on the boilers , furnaces air conditioning water heaters All the above. He's so good that he does check the boilers every month. They do combustion checks on it twice a year. The drain the boilers they check it for drips to check the water heaters. It's the same-day company that put the whole system. They take care of us like we're their own family. We probably could do better with a new furnace but it's the age of the house I don't know if it's worth it and it's out in the middle of the country and we will probably be the last ever lives there. I compliment your whole company and especially Daniel and Peter they're learning very fast. Keep up the excellent work.

Kroil is not so magical..... see an old Project Farm comparison to WD40 and a bunch of other competing products, including Kroil. Of course, whatever you prefer is better than nothing. The wrench and cheater bar are what is doing most of the work. Great videos. Hard to get used to your soft-spoken nature, after another channel I also watch... 😀😀😀 Why use Knipx/Channelock pliars, when a forged wrench will give you better purchase on a fitting ? I refer to the expansion tank.

@@DCHVAC they make thinner crescent wrenches that will fit. if the nut on the tank is chowdered up, a 7/8 wrench will work bit if the nut on the tank is perfect, a 22mm will fit better. any wrench would work but in the case where time is money, go with quality usa made tools. snap on flank drive plus has little teeth that will grip which helps alot in certain jobs but if youre worried about the finish, go with snap on flank drive. proto, sk, wright are also good choices. offshore brands are more apt to spread and round off fasteners in my experience. the choice of tool depends on the application of the tool. where time is money and the job is critical, i go with the best tools i can get. but remember, its the tool behind the tool that gets the job done. having good tools is one thing. knowing how to use them is another story. feel how that tool is working. is it slipping? is it bending? does it have a good grip? is it centered? with time and experience, you learn how tools feel when theyre gripping or slipping. its a skill that will save headaches down the road. just my $.02. good job, by the way.
