Wash coating is something we do as regular annual maintenance depending on condition of the existing throat tiles or refractory on the rear doors if they require more or just a wash coat, but one boiler model specifically like a CB700-250 seem like they have a poor design for the rear doors in which heat tends to get trapped longer. We just had a rear door re-poured on a CB and within a month the boiler is already showing signs of hot spots. Just wondering if this is something common that you have maybe seen on certain CB boilers.

One month refractory failure would point toward improper mixing and/or installation of the refractory. Or possibly improper curing. All that of course considering that the right material was used. If moisture is trapped inside the refractory then when the temperatures begin to rise in it will begin looking for a "way out". After which the rear door refractory is compromised.
