Boiling, Cleaning & Whitening a Big Bull Elk Skull

Yeah Elk are a rough animal to clean I can usually get one done in 4 or 5 hours. It just takes time that stuff on the back of the skull is super tough you did everything right my only suggestion would be between your sessions don't let it dry always keep it hydrated so soak it in water and it will come off quicker for ya

Watch “Whitebone creations” buddy. He wraps the burrs and 1-2 tines with cling wrap and electric tape to save the color and you can boil up above the burrs or submerge the wrapped area.

Hey brother do you mind sending me the products you use to whiten it? How long do I keep it wrapped in that stuff and where would I buy it ? I have a Moose Jaw to do. Thanks.

And don't let it dry when you whiten that bone when its warm and wet the pores are all nice and open and ready for the whitening always keep it wet throughout the whole process start to finish it will make a world of difference. If I'm not able to whiten the same day I always leave them soaking in a bucket of water till it's time to whiten

Not HORNS...... Lol. ANTLERS. Sorry. My only advice is instead of boiling. Go low and slow. Simmer it next time 2 hours. ...... Just like a bone in roast, it will all just fall off. Also I use Dawn ( degreaser) and borax to help collect grease while I simmer.

Also I always scramble the brain cavity with a bent metal hanger, I use my drill. When it simmers it will fall out as needed.
