Weird that nobody has thought to build houses out of something non-flammable - like bricks!

Weird that you have absolutely no idea that we don't build out of ungodly expensive bricks for a reason. It's almost as though you're utterly and willfully ignorant of basic economics.

@@Daves_Not_Here_Man_76 Homes in the affected region cost millions of Dollars. The cost of building materials is a relatively small proportion of that cost. The area is prone to earthquakes, so steel reinforcement is required, but you build it once and it's done. Other countries clear land surrounding the home to act as a firebreak and then have their gardens. Build it from wood and it burns down and you have to build it again, then termites eat it, and you have to rebuild yet again. Build it right the first time. Its "basic economics".

California has not been in a continuous drought for 20 years, but it has experienced significant drought periods within that timeframe. Drought in California is characterized by alternating wet and dry years, with some periods of drought being more severe and prolonged. Historical Context: California's climate history shows that droughts are a recurring feature, with significant droughts occurring in the 20th century as well as more recently. Records indicate that the state has seen multi-year droughts, such as those in the periods 2011-2017 and 2020-2022, which were among the most severe in recent history. Recent Drought Periods: Post-2000, California has experienced several intense drought spells. For instance, the period from 2012 to 2016 was one of the most severe droughts on record, with some regions experiencing conditions not seen in over 1,200 years. However, these droughts were interspersed with wet years; for example, the winters of 2016-2017 and 2018-2019 provided significant relief with above-average precipitation. Current Status: As of recent updates, California has had periods where it's been declared drought-free, particularly after substantial rainfall in certain years, but the state's overall water management challenges continue due to its variable climate. The notion of a continuous 20-year drought is not accurate; instead, the state has been dealing with the effects of a "megadrought" exacerbated by climate change, but with notable interruptions by wetter years. Public Sentiment: Posts on X have highlighted the perception of long-term drought, with some users stating California has been in a drought for several decades, emphasizing the ongoing water management issues and the impact of climate change on extending dry periods. However, these opinions often reflect the frustration with the state's water management rather than a consistent, unbroken drought period. In summary, while California has not been in an uninterrupted drought for 20 years, it has faced significant drought challenges within that period, with some years being wetter, offering temporary relief but not ending the overarching concern about water scarcity due to climate variability and change.
