I believe that Boker is using a cast titanium with finish machining for the handles on their Ti framelocks. I had a Boker version of Todd Rexford's Epicenter and it was as such. I don't believe it's 6Al4V because it doesn't work like 6Al4V nor does it seem to anodize very evenly (hence my supposition about the casting). I was less than impressed as to the wear resistance of the locking face on the knife, so I stripped it down and carbide plated the locking face using a Rocklinizer (it deposits tungsten carbide like a little mini tig welder). That negates the need for a steel insert, as the carbide is 69C. I want to try one of these Stingrays out, I love the look of it, but I still am wary about the locking geometry.

Something you should understand, is that the size of a knife doesn't make it fit into a certain category. A knife the size of that Stingway does not make a "Tactical" knife, it makes it a big pocket knife. Some people like a bigger knife for EDC. If not for their one needs, then because it just looks cool, and is fun to carry all kind of knives. Not everyone is as regimented as you are about what they want to EDC, you really alienate the rest of the knife community by making people feel stupid for liking to carry bigger, heavier knives.

Boker is now making this in G10 for 45$ more. I got one with the 440C and its fine. Pretty much everything Nuttin said here is true of this knife. I did have to adjust a couple of things. The action was really stiff but the blade was centered nicely. When i loosen up the pivot screw the blade goes south a tiny bit... no worry there. Used some blue lube from Benchmade and its glassy smooth now. Belt clip is very stiffly pressing against the flat spot so i bent it out a tad and now its perfect even in stiff jeans. I did cut with it. lots of cardboard and its like cutting butter. Blade is still very sharp with no scratching or marring of any kind. I plan on touching it up with my 6000 grit wet stone and i have a feeling its going to be extremely sharp after that. The thumb stud on mine came out the box a bit loose. Tried to tighten it and it wouldn't tighten. Took it off and put the screw back in and hanked it down more then replaced the stud and now its tight. Other than those things im very impressed with it. The lock is sort of hard to unlock because the titanium gouges into the steel locking face a tad but there is not a problem with that and i would rather have a strong lock than an easy one hand closer. I saw another review where the guy had one that made noise when opening... i know this noise. It is when the pivot screw is to loose and the blade rubs on the handle scales. Just fix it.
@fireantsarestrange
@fireantsarestrange 10 жыл бұрын
Well I sharpened it with the 6000 grit wet stone after i used it to cut things with. The Result is that now i can shave my face easily with it without any lubricants... ie: water. I just don't understand why anyone would put 440C into a bad steel category. The blade here i purchased for 136$ is now much more if you look on the internet. I also like kitchen knives and have found that Boker makes really nice ones. Some are worth several thousand dollars. As this was my first Boker knife purchase I can tell you that I would definatelly buy another Boker knife even if its a Boker Plus variety made in China. Yes this is a cheap knockoff... but a good one. Maybe not so cheap.......lol

let me get this straight. it's a production copy of a custom knife with a chinese made blade. i am suppose to be excited about spending $125 on this. for most of us, $125 is a lot of money for a knife, we don't get freebies from knife makers.

@John_BP
@John_BP 10 жыл бұрын
TheIrcbully No, I just spent, lets just say more money then I care to mention on steel this week and I'm not excited about it either. Yeah it looks cool but the materials, weight and country of origin make the value, at least in my eyes, fairly low. A 5.6 oz chines made knife with 440c for 120? upgrade to vg10 for 150? I could have a sprint run Pm2 with s35vn for that price at my local shop.

Great review great knife, I own one after I watched a gentleman review it(foreign accent) who was drooling over it I had to get it. I wasn't disappointed. I agree with you Nothin, it's tactical and you don't have to mark it up or use it alot unless you need it for that occasion you need "tactical" mine has great lock-up centering and came razor sharp out of box. I would definitely recommend. Former DI in USMC. Thanks.

Hey Nutn, I noticed that you said in the description that this knife would've been a 10/10 for you if it was in a better steel. Boker makes a VG-10 version of this blade as well as the 440C one. Now I don't know if you like VG-10, but it's certainly a better steel than 440C lol.

nutnfancy you might want to check out RUI and Nieto blades then. They're both Spanish manufacturers if I'm not mistaken. I own a RUI Energy Series blade, carbon fiber and G10 handle, stainless steel 8cr13 MOV blade 58-60 HRC and a Nieto fixed blade knife (can't recall the model) with a midle eastern blade shape and dark wood handle scales. The steel on that one is 440C... not the best but for the price and great quality of the piece I can't really complain.

No CS talwar in competitive options? Similar blade shape , the smaller one is around 4 inches as well plus a thumb disk that can be waved. P.S. guys in testing 440c has proven to have very similar performance to Aus8a in cold steel or SOG offerings . Aus8a is tougher and seems to take a nice edge with less effort. 440c should have marginally better edge retention and a moderately significant advantage in corrosion resistance.

Or for $45 more you can have an automatic the same size in CPM-S30V, 1.6 oz lighter, made in the USA. The Piranha Predator. Many colors too. The Boker is still nice though. That 440c seems a little out of place.

I like it too, and am considering getting one after watching your review. The Al Mar Eagle HD compares very favorably with this, and I'm surprised you didn't mention it as a competitive option. Also, the Gerber Combat Folder in CPM-S30V with OD micarta is a much more competitive option than the Gerber model you show. It weighs in at 6.1 oz, but with more reach and a much better steel than the Boker. It's out of production, but many are still available new online. Thanks for the review, and please keep it up.

Lol probably because even though the Countach is absolutely horrible to drive. You need a weightlifters arm to shift gears, the engine is practically bolted to your spine, you might as well ear protection with the lack of sound proofing, pretty much no rear visibility (and not much side visibility), and it is too low to the ground to go over a stick... that being said it is about the most breath taking and innovating cars in super car history.
