I'm a long time knife nut. (about 47 years) It has been a real experience watching knife technology seriously improve so many aspects of something so seemingly simple. I think both these current Cold Steel reviews lend to my determination that you strive, and basically succeed, at being objective. There are a lot of Cold Steel haters, for what reason, I honestly don't know. I have always given Lynn Thompson a great deal of credit for his enthusiasm, true desire to make a great knife, and the positive influence he has had on knives and knife collecting. He makes a damn fine product for the money. It is what it is, and that is Value if you shop smart, cool factor, variety, and admirable durability.

One of the things I really like about Cold Steel's quality control is the fact that they use Taiwanese labor extensively. The Chinese are also getting good, but Taichung City is a cut above everyone else in Asia where workmanship is concerned... IMHO. Some of Spyderco's most expensive, best finished examples are Taichung made. Ontario also got the same, fantastic results out of Taichung City with their RAT series. Perhaps they're using better machinery......or the fact that FREE, better paid workers turn out better production.

Good to see the KRVs back in business Nutn, thanks dude! and BTW, no need for time limits, esp. if it forces you to cut out competitive options or POU discussions, those are among the best parts of your knife videos! so feel free to take longer if needed. The knife addicts amongst us (me included) will find time to watch them haha :) Keep up the great work man and keep the vids comin'!

The finger choil provides more resistance to sliding forward than merely having a high-traction surface. The additional finger grooves, and the curvature of the handle, provide great control while slicing. Therefore, this makes an excellent defensive blade. It was designed with law enforcement in mind. I think your perspective on what constitutes "tactical" is a bit narrow, but overall, its a good video. Thanks.

I really love this knife. I ended up getting the spear point, but I was seriously considering the clip point (I love the shape of that clip point, but the spear point is more versatile, from what I've read). The knife carries great in pocket; with it's thin profile, a forget it's there half the time.

...I'm 'sad' ...I now have all of these Code 4's ...them and the current (clip point) Voyager's are amazing, though in purely functional terms I'd lean toward the Voyager, the Code 4's are just beautiful to look at, made, operate and truly give the impression of a product twice the price. Everyone of the blad types is just awesome ...started with the Spear point (telling myself it is a functionally better version), then got the Clip point for a friend ...upon which ...for myself ...and now, the Tanto.

Hey Nutn, this is a tiny side trek into fixed blades, but I just caught wind of a couple low price survival length blades from Schrade. Now I know Schrade is known for El cheapo stuff, so I wasn't too thrilled until I found out that these two particular blades have kind of a following already. They are the SCHF9 and SCHF10 models. They at least look pretty impressive, and are both at or around $40. Thought I'd pass it on to you as I know you like value knives (if made reasonably well) because more people will get them and experience them. Of course, you may probably already be aware, but either way, there you go.

Hey Nutn' long time subscriber, really enjoy watching the project. I picked up a Hill People Gear Kit Bag a few weeks ago. I watch this chanel since i was in highschool now im 22 years old, and love it (the chanel).... All the info you want... Now i got my first cold steel voyager large clip point combo edge...and im so happy with it. It is my EDC, it is a little bit big to be in this category, but it is lightweight and heavy duty user. I want to know that i have strong knife that can do not so hard batoning, will have no blade play. Nutnfancy can you tell me what do you thing about half serrated blades, specially the cold steel ones ? Will a batoning be a problem for it,and can i expect some damage ?

Glad to see another knife review. Traction completely missing, knife slips around in my hand when opening. Otherwise, ergos are nice for such a thin knife. Feels heavy for the size, but carries well. BM 940 would be my 10/10 knife. This one comes in at a solid 7/10. Recon 1 is bigger and more useful overall, but the Code 4 is a nice, not so little, user.

Dude that thing looks pretty sweet. Only concern is the traction..like the texture on the BM 940 is actually not too bad. I'm guessing the Code 4 is more smooth than that. Still I think this may be my next knife and I don't have a Cold Steel yet anyway! Thanks for the review.

After about two or three months of EDC with my Code 4 Clipoint, my only complaint was that the steel took stains like crazy. There is practically no finish on these blades, and they succumb to... well, everything. A good satin or stone wash would make all the difference in the world.

Hey nutn whats your thoughts on the SOG Kiku folder?
@christopherdavis52979 жыл бұрын
I bought the clip point version of the Code 4 and am actually going to return it. It's by no means a bad knife, but there were a couple of things about it I didn't like. Nutn was right when he said this isn't a defensive blade; the handle, while thin and light (which makes for a good EDC) doesn't provide nearly enough grip for that. If it had some texture and gimping on it, maybe, but as it is, thin plus smooth equals forget it. Also, as strong as the Triad Lock is purported to be, I think it's overkill on a knife like this; it makes far more sense on the large fighting knives like the Voyager and Espada. It's not the easiest the actuate (actually it's a bit of a pain, though admittedly it would probably loosen up a bit over time), and the blade doesn't flip out as easily as on my other knives (Spyderco Tenacious, Kershaw Skyline, etc.) I could probably get used to it if I tried, but overall I think there are better options out there.

Beautiful and great in hand. The shape of the handle feels better in hand than many G-10 blades. Unfortunately mine was defective on and the triad lock jammed open after every 3 or 4 openings. No one could close it without killing their thumb. My Voyager never had this problem. Too bad bc I think it is far better in hand than my Benchmade 710D2 and many other tactical blades.

I just received my code 4 today (purchased from Amazon) and am having the same problem with the lock - takes superman to get it to release and close the blade. How did you resolve the issue? Or did you just return it? Thanks.
